Nice, the Lynx actually only lives in Far northern north america but it is only a subspecies of the bobcat. There are really only like 4 species of cats in america counting jaguars in NM/AZ. The bobcat has a bunch of subspecies though.

I see. I looked it up and that cat is called a Lynx Rufus - a subspecies of the bobcat. Don't you have those as well?

Yeah the Lynx is a bit bigger and has more distinct ears.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynx

Yeah the bobcat is in most places I actually had a clear shot at a 40 pounder not to long ago but let it be b/c I would rather see them alive.

That's how I am as well. I stopped hunting because I couldn't handle killing animals. I know it makes me a hypocrite because I eat them.

You know you don't have to kill everything just cause it's in season right? I haven't shot a deer in the past ten years cause the on on the wall is more impressive han any I've had the chance to shoot. Just eat what you kill and you don't have to worry about feeling bad. That said, I'm after a black bear and a bobcat tjis year that I don't have any intentions of eating, but I don't have a guilty conscience about it. I'll eat my feral hog, dove and quail.

Oh I know man. I'm not coming down on anyone who does hunt. I just don't have it in me to be a hunter. I can't even fish. I'm kind of a softy in that regard. I just can't stand taking life. I deal with eating what others have shot be not thinking about it. I am fully aware of what a hypocrite that makes me.

I have a TN carry permit and it was a 8 hour class for me. 12 hours would be a bit much imo

Our dude did lots of breaks...I want to say we were there 8a-8p on a Sat.

In nashville it was only 8 hours?

Yeah you almost need a gun on you at all times in memphis.

I hear that all the time but in 28 years here I've never been robbed, broken into, held up...none of it.

I always tell people if you stay out of gangs and don't sell drugs you're normally safe here.

Lmao, what's the deal with not being able to carry a tampon?
Maybe because women aren't supposed to be out of the kitchen?

The only class we have is a hunter safety course that is 3 hours a day for 3 days. It's not required for a conceal and carry but I think it is mandatory for people getting their hunting license for the first time.

Yeah I think that isnt a bad idea in all honesty.

To each his own.

Absolutely to each his own, and if you don't feel confident/competent/at risk enough to warrant one, then by all means you are correct.

If you're talking about actual odds, I suspect the incidence of death by a mugger on someone with a permit vs those without is lower, not higher.

(07-12-2013 05:18 PM)oklalittledixie Wrote:  How many of y'all actually carry on a regular basis?

To carry or not is often an issue of lifestyle. "If I were to carry", I would do so if I were traveling... when I am on my boat... if I were going to the woods... If I were out late at night... if I were carrying valuables... etc etc etc... if I felt I (or my family) were at greater than normal risk. Some people often feel at risk. Some people rarely.

Actually, Robert... the 01-wingedeagle is right there in your comment.

People who intend to kill a deer should know how to do it safely so that a) they kill rather than wound the deer and b) they don't harm people. People who concealed carry don't intend to kill people... ever... If they do, they are likely murderers who won't respect the law and attend a class in the first place. It's exactly the issue about gun regulations in a nutshell. You clearly get it, but it doesn't fit your talking point memo so you have to call it crazy

I never wanted to buy a gun. I don't hunt and I've always lived in safe areas. But the older I get, the more suspicious I am of the government and its ability to protect my family. Why is the federal government buying up all the ammunition?

I'm not in the "black helicopter/conspiracy" crowd. I've just lost my blind faith in humanity.

Wonder if they will revoke Zimmerman's concealed carry permit if he is not found guilty?

I don't have a CCW.

I spend 90% of my time at work, and I'm not even allowed to bring a weapon on the premises 99% of the time.

RE: Who here has a concealed carry permit?
It was not particularly hard to obtain.

My problem here in NC is that I understand the instructors are not always as professional as they should be. I have had people tell me that all they did was pay the fee, take the class and fingerprint. They did not even have to qualify on a range. I am not comfortable with this. There should be stringent standards of competence shown in order for the instructor to pass you. I fear at times this is not happening. I fear this is what happening in the Zimmerman case. Everything leads me to wonder just what level of training he received. I can tell you that the things he did prior to the confrontation go against what I was taught in my class in regard to handling potential situations. The instructor I had required qualification at 7 yards and went over and over over the implications of carrying concealed.

I would like so see more uniformity nationwide in regard to the CCW classes. We do not need poorly trained individuals carrying concealed weapons.

I very rarely carry on my person. 99% of the time my firearm accompanies me only in my vehicles.

Probably not. He needs a refresher class though...or a good class. I question the training he got in the first place.

Robbed in the parking lot at gunpoint at Christmas at the rich white folks mall in a rural white folk city...

Robbed at knife point in the ghetto walking home from a night class. That one didn't work out so well for the other guy.

You never know when you may need to blow someone's head off in self-defense.

I used to carry one when I had to do boat patrols. As of right now I don't have a permit, but my wife does because. I'm considering getting one myself because I don't like that imbalance in the house.
