RE: For ODU men's basketball coach, a mystery roster
Agree, the CUSA is a 16 team conference that as a whole is much better than the CAA but has it's UNCW's and Georgia State's. FIU is going to be bad.

ECU is considered one of the stronger teams this season. Who thinks we can't compete with ECU? With the exception of ECU, 7 other teams will be making their first trip to the Constant Center. I'd like to think maybe we could go 6-2 at home against unfamiliar opponents.

We play at Florida Atlantic on January 18th. Who's ready to say we can't win that game? That could be one of what, 2 road wins we would possibly need to get to .500 in conference play.

CUSA has 5 or 6 really good teams, 5 or 6 decent teams and 5 or 6 train wrecks. Hopefully we fit into the middle category.

With the loss of Hill and Painter, and the injury to Clark, we are substantially leaner than last year.

Likely JC wins many more than BT did.
Last year we at least had a nucleus of experience and talent, and a horrendous conference.

This year's CUSA is light-years ahead of last years train wreck that was the CAA.
I fervently hope I am wrong, but we might not win a game in conference.

And that is no reflection on Coach Jones.

Come on 78, I choose not to even consider the glass empty without a drop of water insight. I don't know much about the other CUSA bb teams but I am a glass half full kind of person.

Normally I am as well.
But I am also a realist. We hardly know who is even on our roster this season.

Most of us, including myself, consumed mass quantities of Kool-Aid last year.

Nice find!

I had 19-11 and a CIT appearance which I would not have predicted had I known what was going on. I remember the very first coaches show where BT sounded, lets just say different. He was ripping each player on the team, calling them lazy, slow, everything in the book. Right then and there I knew something was wrong.

An earlier version of him could have gone 19-11 in that CAA in which Towson went from 1-31 to 19-13, the greatest single season turnaround in NCAA history. That's how bad the CAA was.

There was no way we could have predicted the outcome of last season. It should have been a mediocre season, by our standards. Boy, oh boy, was I way off.

Yeah. Look how overly optimistic a negative Nellie like myself was. And I was roundly criticized for my negativity.

CUSA is obviously better, but there's winnable games to be had. FIU is a toilet fire, for example. Rice only won five games itself. North Texas was pretty crummy and is in its own transition. And Marshall also had a sub-200 RPI.

Given where ODU is right now, there's certainly no automatic wins the way they've been in years gone by. But 4-6 CUSA wins is not shooting for the moon, either.

At least they were toilet fires in a good conference last year.....we were a toilet fire in one of the worst conferences in all of basketball as evidenced by the Caa winner being forced to play in a play in game and then getting annihilated by Indiana.

Sure, we might beat those toilet fires, but 8-8.....as I said.....wake up sweetie you are dreaming.

At least bring something to the table if you're going go make an asanine prediction like 8-8 in cusa when we won how many games in the Caa last year? Then we lose our coach, our interim coach, lost donte hill, painter etc.

But yeah.......

.500 seems totally reasonable considering we won 5 games last year and lost our best post player and our best perimeter defender.

6-2 at home in cusa????

You realize the Ted is going to be a morgue this coming year right? The students went AWOL last year and I highly doubt that changes this coming year. Our homecourt advantage is pretty much nil at this point.

Not to pile on, but it's completely embarrassing the way our administration has let the student support for basketball completely disappear. You can place the blame on whoever you want for this catastrophe but don't act like it isn't exactly that.......a catastrophe.

There's a difference between "negativity" and "reality". People looked the other way on Blaine for far too long and it cost us. I just hope the same isn't true for our exalted AD. If you want a miracle, go to church. 6-2 at home in cusa ain't happening.

Do I win the prize since I had us at 16-14 which is the closest anyone predicted to reality last year? Oh right.....my prize is I'll have to hear the same uninformed garbage about my prediction this year that we aren't going 6-2 or 8-8 and will instead, suck again.

Its July. might as well have some optimism. if they have a bad season its going to be miserable around here for a while after football is over. no point making it all doom and gloom already. that being said there really isn't much else to talk about I guess. visiting my nationals message board certainly doesn't help.

Amazing. Our basketball program is hoping for contributions from transfers from Campbell and Christopher Newport while our football team is beating out the New York Yankees for recruits. Who would have thought this 4 years ago?

As has been said freeman from Campbell is the real deal, he will start over Keenan immediately if I had to guess.

He should have been here from jumpstreet but a certain coach had his head up his you know where.

I'm glad to have him, almost a 90% FT shooter, it will be like a breathe of fresh air!

I hope so. I don't mean to knock any of the kids (from what some have said, the CNU transfer may be pretty good as well). Still, there is a world of difference in the statuses of the two programs right now. Though my post was meant in humor, there is some truth to it.

The West Virginia game just became much easier and a 6-10 245 transfer is eligible immediately but I doubt we pursue him. Would make for some high drama in Cancun.

Anyone going to Cancun? The ODAF deal looks great.

We renewed our vows (25 years) in May as part of a local radio station promotion, and
my wife said it would be a perfect 2nd honeymoon.
However she also said that while I could go to the games, not to expect her to watch basketball. 05-nono

I would have to miss a football game too. 03-weeping

78...

Billy and I are going. We usually do a cruise every year...going cheap, inside cabin, off season, etc. We didn't take one the last two tears so we can do the Cancun Challenge and next year's Paradise Jam. The airfare was a killer so we cut back to only 4 nights at the resort to make up for it.

You won't miss the UNC game Thurs the 23rd. We fly down OMG early Monday morning Nov 25th. Team banquet that night, games Tues and Wed night, Thanksgiving in the sun, sand and sea, then fly home Friday the 29th.

Call or PM me and I will tell you what I've found out so far. I get OC/DC when I travel so I've been Googling and talk to the Cancun Challenge Rep!
