No mention of a super bowl champion Tim Harris?

That was directed to transtt.. hence the [quote.]

Edit: I'll add another one you'd think T would have listed.. Harold Beane.

RE: The Greatest
But, I think he didn't list him because Harris was discussed early in this thread. Which was the point I was trying to make, not the he left him off his list.

And as much as I loved him as a player, Coot was not one of the greatest Tigers. Aside from a couple of great hits and an incredible nickname, he was not even one of the two best LBs on that team.

If you want to get technical, Transitt's post was 10, Harris first mention was in post 12.. not much of a point you're making here but by all means carry on. Well, that's your opinion-

RE: The Greatest
I recognize that the focus of this thread is on players, but the two "greatest" GAMES I ever saw in person were against our two Mississippi rivals from the SEC: the first ever win over Ole Miss and Johnny Vaught in '67 and the heartbreaking loss to Mississippi State in '74, both games played at Memphis Memorial Stadium. Unforgettable nights.

But he was a winner, willing to do whatever it took to lead his team. Very unorthodox, but exciting to watch. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet too. Hankins was probably the better pure quarterback. His numbers speak for them self, though he was probably throwing the ball about 10 times more than Danny a game. But if I was playing a backyard football game, I'd go with DW every time.

Both quarterbacks suited the personnel at their disposal. Hankins would not have been as good as Wimprine, because he didn't have great arm strength. Our long ball threats at wide receiver would have been at least a bit wasted, and the the long ball threat was a great benefit to DeAngelo.

Wimprine would not have been as good as Wimprine, because he wouldn't (couldn't?) throw over the middle. Hankins threw a very accurate short - medium ball. This is what was needed with the combination of ball control type receivers and backs that we had.

My head and the stats tell me that Hankins was better; but my memory tells me that Wimprine was better. Who knows?

Gerald Tinker was probably the fastest Tiger ever. He could fly. Plus was an Olympic Gold Medalist.

With all the historians we have here, we have yet to see a video surface of that. The youngsters here deserve to see that.

Where did you get the pic? I've Googled it and can't get anything.

I got it from Phillys
Debrill Smith (sp). She worked as a photog for The DeSoto yearbook. She did a lot of sports stuff. We went over to the DeSoto office every 2 or 3 weeks during Football or basketball season to see what they had. You might wantg to check the yearbook archives to see if they have anything.
