RE: World University Games give the latest look at a 24-second shot clock world

Agreed on the stat skewing.

RE: World University Games give the latest look at a 24-second shot clock world
Change is a constant in all sports, but basketball as an indoor limited space game is more fast paced than any other timed team sport. That is why some rules have been changed to increase the pace and speed of the game. There used to be a center-jump after each made basket, also one to start each half and one after each "tied-up" ball. Now the only center jump is to start the game with "alternating possessions" settling the others. (WBB used to have 6 players per team with 3 who could play only in the back court and 3 who could only play in the fore court)
The shot clock was begun in response to a particular ACC game where the final score was something like 5-4. The guards brought the ball past half court and then literally sat on the ball until a defensive player came out and made them start playing again. Since that required a defensive player to leave his post, they just stared at each other for minutes at a time.
