step 2 get the liberty bowl with team 1. That would ko the liberty/sec deal but getting team 4 from the big 12 and team 1 from the american is a good setup. I doubt the sec drops the alabama bowl considering its in the HQ town. I'd guess they would try to prop it up, ditto the big 10 in detroit bowl, + the sec has lost bowls, peach, cotton, maybe liberty so they need to fill slots.

I do think the Big-12 #4 vs the AAC #1 would probably be a very entertaining, competetive, and well attended game. The Liberty could do worse.

Considering that the Liberty would be ACC #7 or worse or SEC #8 or worse, they would be very smart to get American #1 vs XII #4. That would be about the best the American could hope for at this point.

RE: So Big 12 has the Liberty Bowl
Even though the tweets and articles have listed the Liberty fourth for the Big 12, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some flexibility between the Liberty, BWW and the Meinecke bowls. Flexibility seems to be commonplace once you get past the first few tie-ins- bowls and leagues work together for the best matchups, rather than rigid picks.

Clearly that's not automatic or it would have happened already. The AAC may get the bowl, but it's clear the Liberty is at the very least intrigued with the concept of a P5 vs P5 match-up. Memphis fans do a good job of supporting the conference in the bowl (even when the Tigers are not on the field). Perhaps that pays off for the AAC.

Ole Miss is a stone's throw from Memphis, as well. I can see the SEC wanting to hang onto that tie in to send their lowest rated western division team. Most years, it will be a Mississippi team, but they could get Arkansas or Auburn for the next couple of years. All of those schools are an easy drive and travel well. The only bad part about the Mississippi schools are they are close enough to not have to spend the night, so the city loses a lot of sales tax revenue (hugely important in Tennessee; we don't have a state income tax). The Big 12 is a perfect tie-in for Memphis because all of those fan bases will have to make a weekend of it. The ACC would be ideal if they were guaranteed a team coming from the south, but the chance of getting a northeast school in that slot is pretty high. Those schools north of Virginia don't travel this far for a bowl of that stature (we know from experience here in Nashville from the Music City Bowl). The SEC is probably the safest bet for the Liberty.

AAC needs the Liberty bowl like a man walking across the desert needs a drink of water. Hopefully they sign an AAC tie in, but I'm not that hopeful. Aresco bowl looks like it isn't panning out...especially if all they can get is a CUSA tie in.

The Aresco Bowl needs to be shut down if its just an CUSA vs AAC game. Thats not much of a pay-off for all the start-up costs and financial risk the conference would have to take. That match-up can happen at a number of existing lower McBowl locations without taking any financial risks.

Essentially the Liberty Bowl is the last hope of the AAC to have something even worth sending a champ to. It's pretty much all in on the Liberty, because past that it's a really grim picture for where the AAC champ goes if they aren't in the access bowl.

Aresco said in an interview today that he met with the Liberty bowl people yesterday and he also seemed to indicate that the AAC would send their #1 here, if selected for this bowl.

With Memphis as a new conference member, I thought the Liberty Bowl would be automatic for the AAC?

AAC would seem like a no brainer there.

My gut says if the ACC will include the Liberty in the pool with
Gator/Music, Pinstripe, Sun and Belk bowl, instead of the bottom pool of the last 2-3 bowls, it goes to the ACC. Figure last three being Miltary, Detroit and Independence.

Apparently not as automatic as we once thought....at this point who knows. But Aresco is in Memphis now touring sites and meeting with people.

Back in December the Liberty Bowl director Steve Ehrhart said that they wanted a Big 12 vs. SEC match-up. I will be surprised if the American gets a Liberty Bowl tie-in.

I think the best Bowl that the American can land is the Military Bowl vs. the ACC.

Military Bowl is a possibility. Pac 12, Big 12, nor SEC make sense. I thought the B1G would go for it, but that remains to be seen.
