That could be Pookie or Markel this year.

Basically, we KNOW that Joe, Chris, Geron, and Shaq will get their (most likely starter's) minutes.

All the rest is up for grabs.

Pellom, Woodson, Wilson, Nichols, Powell, King, Iverson, and Crawford will be competing for the other 3-5 spots.

My hunch is that Nichols and Iverson (provided he qualifies) will be high in the mix for rotation minutes due to their projected talent. Pellom has D1 experience in his favor, and a third big in the regular rotation will be important. Any of those 3 could disappoint OR exceed expectations as well.

That makes 7.

Woodson has size. If he's a banger who can board, there will be a place for him. King has extreme skill as well and is very talented... he's another that could easily step up into a major rotation position. Powell has speed and skills. I suspect he'll take a backseat this year, but there could be some backup PG minutes for him if things break right (and assuming he qualifies). Wilson has a year of experience in the program and showed some flashes last year and some hustle. Crawford is not as highly rated but many on the staff were high on him, so we might be surprised.

Basically, after those first 4-6 guys, there are a lot who will legitimately contend for a rotation spot. We'll see who proves themselves and who ends up having to wait their turn. The intense competition for minutes will be good for everyone.

Wilson's not getting off the bench next year unless he has dramatically improved. King and inversion have his minutes

Yep. Nick King is bad and so are the others.

On paper this is the best class we've had. Add our existing players and this could be a special season. Very special.

I believe you will be surprised by Mr. Wilson's minutes. Very talented and long. If his handles improve, he and Markel will battle next year for minutes at the 2. Future's bright!

I disagree... or, more to the point, I think it's impossible (and maybe even a little silly to try) to make proclamations like that with any sort of accuracy. It may turn out to be true, but it just as easily may not.

A few points:

1) The biggest period of growth for ANY player transitioning to the next level is the offseason between the freshman (or rookie) season and the sophomore season.

2) High level performance (or even stardom) on one level doesn't always project accurately to the same level of performance at the next level, especially not immediately.

3) Wilson has at least demonstrated that he has skills and athleticism to be potentially helpful on the D1 level. None of the incoming guys (save Pellom) have done that yet.

the landscape of sports is littered with guys who projected to be superstars at the next level but never lived up to it. Paris London was hardly a superstar in college, Greg Oden was hardly a superstar in the NBA, etc. You just never know.

It's also full of surprises the other way... Who knew Roy Hibbert or Marc Gasol would evolve into dominant NBA centers? Who projected DJ's level of contribution last year?

Point being, I ain't going to (hypothetically) give Damien's minutes away to someone who hasn't even earned them yet.

RE: 11 man rotation?
With this level of talent and athleticism, Pastner needs to attack, press, and run the opposition the entire game. Use the conditioning provided by Life Changer Frank into a distinct competitive advantage. No team can run with us for 40+ minutes. NO ONE.

Playing time will be determined by the game situations (fouls, match-ups, who's hitting shots, etc) as well as indivudal players accepting their role within the framework of the team (scorer, rebounder, defender, etc). Woodson will be a good example of someone understanding and accepting their role. This is a big guy but even if he drops 30 pounds - which I think he will - his running and conditioning probably will not be there this season. No problem. The coaches simply put him in game situations to utilize his size and interior play. No one expects him to run a lot; so his role will be to spell other bigs, defend the interior, rebound, and score off offensive rebounds inside.

Joe, Chris, Geron get about 30 minutes per game.
Shaq gets about 25 per game.
Pellom and Austin get about 20 per game.
2 of Wilson/King/Iverson will get most of the remaining 45 minutes.

Woodson, Pellom, and Austin will get more minutes....no way Shaq can play 25 a game the way he fouls. To me, Iverson is going to be the most intriguing...he's gonna play.

There's no way we have an 11 man rotation. I would love for us to run the hell out of people and rotate 10 guys, but that hasn't been Joh's style up to this point.

I'm interested to hear others thoughts. Dangit I wish Midnight Madness was tomorrow night. I can't wait to see this group play!!

Gr8 post +5 Midnight Madness does need to start soon & really soon....

My son & I were just discussing this & a thread like this should continue until MM IMHOCOGS

I really think that our second rotation would now be more formidable; meaning the ability to score without the realization of ANY drop off from the starters;

I love the way this team is shaping up, even comparing to teams such as Kansas & The HYPE of the Kentucky class coming in...

Looking @ what's been put together here; I really like the idea that we will have combinations of lineups; flexibility depending how the game is transpiring;score; fouls; injuries; etc...etc...etc

that's ofcourse if CJP chooses to look @ his lineup that way....He IS THE COACH..... & I'm just a COACH POTATOE03-lmfao

Nonetheless; what we are putting together is VERY INTRIGUING ......to say the least

20...it seemed to get less and less as the season went on. Played 9 and 10 respectively in the two tournament games.

RE: 11 man rotation?
I don't really have an opinion regarding who will play x number of minutes etc but I do see the possibility of playing a larger # of players depending on the situation. Since we are a transition type team I would like to see all players really buy into a defense and let that become the team's identity (something I think the team has lacked for a # of years now). If the players can develop that defensive mindset and understanding then I think the younger players can find some minutes. Would be great to just keep the gas on for 40 mins.

Agreed. Anyone expecting Joe to play less than 30 minutes is deluded. Heck, I'd expect closer to 32-33 mins per game. Only thing holding his minutes back will be fouls or blowouts...

These young guys will not play a ton of minutes if Josh still keeps giving the quick hook for mistakes and missed shots.

Pellom/Austin
Goodwin/Woodson/Hipp
Iverson/King/Wilson
Geron/CC/Markel
Joe/Pookie/Craft

Can interchange a lot of positions.
