A-10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be Held May 4-5
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Charlotte Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field teams look to defend their respective titles on May 4-5 at the 17th Annual Atlantic 10 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The 2013 Championship will be held at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Leading the way for the 49ers is senior Jake Deaton and junior Khyran Shank. Deaton, who has twice been named the A-10 Performer of the Week this season, currently sits atop the Atlantic 10 Conference standings in both the Discus (56.70m) and the Shot Put (18.05m), while Shank paces the A-10 in both the 100-meters (10.32) and the 200-meters (21.11).
Also contending for the men's title will be last year's runner-up, Rhode Island, along with Butler, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, Temple, VCU and Xavier.
The Charlotte women's team will also look to defend its title this weekend as they aim for their third consecutive A-10 championship and seventh in the last eight seasons. Charlotte is led by sophomore T'Sheila Mungo who currently ranks second in the A-10 this season in the 400-meters (53.26) and the 800-meters (2:10.19) and is third in the A-10 in the 200-meters (24.39).
Vying for the women's title along with Charlotte are Butler, Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Saint Louis, Temple, VCU and Xavier.
The Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be split over two days, with action starting at 9:00 am on Saturday. Complete results, order of events and photos will be available online through Atlantic10.com.
