Agree, the SBC is holding the only guaranteed invite. With that and the other conferences somewhat settling down, our position is much improved, since after us the window may close for a while. While JMU and MSU may know they're the top candidates, they also have to realize the SBC won't wait forever. The longer they wait the more schools may come into the picture that may not currently be ready (North Florida http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2013-...oast-small FGCU http://www.fgcu.edu/president/files/FGCU...011511.pdf ?).

Sorry guys, Jax St is better then adding UMass football only. You guys might as well jump on the Big East bandwagon with the teams that are being suggested. One in Utah, SDSU and NDSU, UMass, are you kidding me??? That didn't work for them, they never made it to the field with that mess, and neither would we. Forget adding schools outside the footprint unless you are trying to create a 6th Gof5 conference because that is all that will happen.
Oh, no doubt about Jax State, but I'm not sure they would have enough vote to get in. I just hope the Belt doesn't get desperate enough to even consider filling #12 with Liberty or UMass.

I dont have a problem with a yes vote for Liberty. Their funding could ensure that they will be competitive on the field(s),courts in the future and they bring a new state/market... well they put us in that state and market anyway. They fit, puts us in the same market that CUSA picked up with ODU. And they are ready! I dont care if you believe what they believe or not, you dont have to convert to have them in the same conference no more than you have to be Catholic to be in conf. with Notre Dame or be or agree with Mormon to have BYU.
You also dont have to goto school there so the Academics make no difference in determining SOS or strength of the conference. I'd rather have ODU, but we don't have that option.
Also have no problem with JSU or MoState.
I think the UMASS thing could work as temp fix to get to 12. They would be the outlayer in the East like Idaho in the west. As I understand it, the MAC has the option to kick them out and they might have to go back to FCS otherwise. I could handle that for a few years until someone else gets their footall up to speed. Would buy us time and keep Umass FBS just like Idao. We all know Idaho and UMass would both have to be temp fixes. Since the MAC was at 13 with them. They might be waiting on another FCS program to get ready to move. The desire for more top level FCS to make the move is going to GROW faster now. They/we might not be waiting very long. But I have no problem with them coming on board Temporarly as long as everybody agrees it is temp. The MAC can have them back later when YSU/Delaware or whoever decide they have had enough of the FCS.

We have tons of candidates. UMass would already be FBS. True not in the foot print, just like Idaho, but would be football only just like Idaho.
Well we aren't getting anywhere the way it is. Most are willing to take JMU or Missouri State.
Half not wanting Jax State, some hating the thought of taking Lamar or SHSU. Only see a couple of people even willing to consider LU. Seems like many do
not want start ups like Kennesaw State or Mercer.
Benson was right. We have tons of possibilities, but a school that the SB actually wants, and is willing and or capable of going to FBS seems elusive.
That's why UMass would be a better option than many would first think conceivable.

Only reason I'd say yes to UMass is to give the eastern teams a feel for what it will be like for the western teams having to travel WAY out of the footprint every other year.

OMG!!!! Somebody has fell of their rocker!
Serioulsy? Merecer has a pretty little stadium under construction, but neither of these two are even on the radar of the SBC. They would be lucky to get into the SoCon and wont be able to produce attendance numbers for many years that will come close to the minium NCAA reqs for being FBS.
My preference would be:
1. JMU (CUSA is NEVER going to call! Get out of the FCS while you can!)
2. Liberty (READY NOW)
3. UMASS footabll only for now. Already FBS!
3. MOState (But they seem to be years away from being ready, Umass could by them time!)
4. JSU
NEVER - NEVER Mercer or KSU!
I'd rather have NCA&T or Elon just to throw some NC teams at you.
But seriously, UTC could be a good fit or even the Citadel before those two in Bold!

University of West Georgia and Valdosta State are a couple that we forgot about.
Valdosta State would have to move up but has been a real power in football for a long time.
They kind of remind me of another school in Georgia.
I went ahead and bolded them to save you the time.

Has Valdosta State ever seriously discussed a move to FCS? What's holding them back if not?

We have looked at schools without football programs at all. So Valdosta and West Georgia would be
well ahead of that curve, or the one that uncc is doing.
Let's just put the kabosh on more than 2 programs per state. This takes care of any more from GA, AL, LA, AR, or TX.
Two is plenty.
I say no to UMass. Besides, they would never go all sports, nor would it be convienient.
The only way UMass works is if CUSA and the SBC merge and divide into 4 pods. Just not worth it.

You may be right, but IF CUSA were to pull direct from FCS, JMU is about as close to the CUSA model as anyone and is closer to the model than several Sun Belt programs.
JSU has no shot at CUSA, JMU on the other hand, I'd call a long shot, but not impossible.
Since some of us are bordering on the ridiculous, I'm including The Citadel in the conversation. They are smack dab in the East and visiting Charleston every other year would be a bonus for the east division. They have a long history here in the south, loaded with alumni and draw pretty good.

It has been nice ! I'd vote yes on that one if given the choice. I'd rather see that than JSU and some others mentioned.
But also, UTC might be a real possiblity.
