Personally, I think the only way he can escape the needle is if he gives enough info to the Feds to roll up a couple of Terror Cells

RE: What should we do with Dzhokhar?
As much as it would satisfy me to put him to death, I think the best course is to put him either in Florence or Gitmo and let him live a long hard life at our expense.

If we kill him he will become an example for the people like him that want to hurt us. IMO it is best to let him live out his life in anonymity in as harsh a place as our government can imagine.

That's easy enough... If he is guilty hand him over to the Chinese so they can try him for the murder of the international student.

These are all Federal Charges. Probably the same charges used on McVeigh, all of which are Capital Offenses.

This guy is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. We're all better off for never having to hear another peep from McVeigh, unlike, say Charles Manson. I don't think this teenage punk is going to be lioniEd like a Hamas drone, either for martyrdom or for a target for prisoner exchange. Let him die by the needle in a couple of years.

There's an original idea for improving our relationship with China. It could even help us with the Korean situation...

RE: What should we do with Dzhokhar?
I'm not sure what to do with him. If the radicals who trained him think he's a hero because he inflicted terror on such a huge city, when the day comes to execute him they could retaliate. Down the road we should put out info saying he spilled his guts and gave up his cohorts all while emphasizing that this scum will be in a lonely cell for the rest of his life. Now if he had an accident in prison.....

RE: What should we do with Dzhokhar?
I'm in the "let's wait for a trial" boat. Is there any evidence this guy is part of a bigger plot? What little bit of evidence that was out there points to his brother being the ring leader and this kid just tagged along because he didn't want to disappoint his brother. Doesn't mean he shouldn't spend 3 or 4 life sentences in Florence, but doesn't mean he is guilty of treason either.

Gitmo is not an option. This guy is not an enemy combatant. He's a citizen. He should get the same treatment Eric Rudolph or Timothy McVey got. Just because it's possible his motivation was Islamic extremism makes no difference. We haven't repealed the 5th and 6th Amendments.

Yeah, rendering US Citizens to foreign nations for torture is a great idea. Fsck the Constitution, right?

Those categories are not mutually exclusive.

Quote:He should get the same treatment Eric Rudolph or Timothy McVeigh got.
I'd be fine with that.

Quote:Yeah, rendering US Citizens to foreign nations for torture is a great idea.
It would require some careful thought, and it depends on which citizen(s) we're talking about. If we're talking about a US citizen who planted the Boston Marathon bombs, I would probably be fine with it, **provided** that our government was satisfied that it had squeezed all the relevant information out of him that was there to be squeezed.

No, just fukk the Boston bomber(s).

Actually, in terms of what little legal meaning that term actually has, they are. If he is a citizen giving aid and comfort to the enemy, he should be tried for treason, not locked away indefinitely without a trial.

They got trials. They didn't get sent to China for torture.

Granted I don't know your political leanings but I will call you out if I ever hear you complain about the government doing anything unconstitutional. What a load of horse excrement.

Give him due process and execute him post haste. It would be a crime to re-victimize those he harmed by having to pay to incarcerate him for life.

Death penalty costs more than a life sentence.

So some say. I really don't care. The quicker he is dead...the better.

I think the costs come from all the appeals, investigators, psychologists, etc. There are a lot of hurdles to clear.
