RE: Rice at UH (Friday Game)
Jordan throwing an awful lot of pitches-- can't tell whether he is nibbling, but against UH he should be pounding the strikezone aggressively. Strands runners on 1B (bunt single) and 2B (walk).

Time to test their 3B, and see if he's a defensive liability. Not one ball hit in his direction yet.
Cook leadoff double down 3B line! Well, at least hit in his direction. Need to capitalize here, and hit toward right side of field to move the runner even if an out.
Nevermind... wild pitch sends Cook to 3B, no outs. Just put the ball in play here...
Ratterree RBI single! 02-13-banana Well done.
Hoelscher struck out on 3 pitches. Awful AB there. Unable to get a bunt down on two tries. One out.
Perrott grounded into doubleplay.
And for the second weekend in a row, we're hitting double play after double play against teams that had turned a well below-average number of double plays on the season. Insane.

Good guys lead 3-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning.

RE: Rice at UH (Friday Game)
Strong 1-2-3 inning for Jordan (two groundouts, strikeoutKKKKK).

Teykl ground out on 3-2 count.
Byrd ground out to pitcher on attempted bunt. Once again, our bunting tonight has been far less than optimal. Our two attempts at bunt hits have gone right back to the pitcher. Hard to test the 3B when you cannot get the ball in his direction.
Stringer walked. Man on 1B, two outs.
Stainback walked. Runners on 1B and 2B, two outs.
Aquino flied out to RF.

Good guys lead 3-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Geez. Jordan walks the leadoff batter (#8 hitter with just 8 BBs on the season) on 4 pitches. Good grief. Pound the strikezone already!

Jordan really disappointing tonight. Overly nibbling, and afraid to throw strikes against a lousy hitting team...and it cost him big time this inning. How do you walk the #8 hitter on 4 pitches to lead off the inning. 5 consecutive hits later, and it's 6-3 with no outs and a runner on 3B.

And now we're going to waste John Simms??? We're likely going to be down by 4 runs with 4 innings to play. We need to win 2 games this weekend. Why Simms here?

Starting Kubitza against Tech turning out not to be a good idea. Kubitza today would have been a better choice. I think we could have gotten by with Johnny All-Staff tuesday against a bad Red Raider team.
Now we are repeating the same thing against UH that we did with UCF(re:Simms)? Sorry just don't agree.

Disagree, Tiki. After AK's big-time struggles finding the strikezone against UCF, I think Coach made the right decision having him pitch mid-week to regain his command and confidence

RE: Rice at UH (Friday Game)
So his being considerably off in one game was worth risking getting off to a win in an important conference series and then using Simms to try and save the night? I would rather have risked going with Austin after a good rest and a bullpen on Friday and Simms on Sunday giving us the pitching advantage in 2 of the 3 games. This is shaping up to be just like last weekend.

If we drop 2 or 3 games this weekend all our eggs will be in the conference tourney basket not a great situation given our last two year performance at home in the Regionals.

What difference does it make if Kubitza started today vs tomorrow?

I agree re. wasting Simms. It would be one thing if he was coming in to a tie or one-run game...but I just don't understand throwing him out there--even for a couple innings-- in a game we're already down by 3 or 4 runs.

There is a reason we pitch Kubitza on Friday's...to get a game up on the series. Plus that is his usual start date. If it didn't make a difference to try and get a leg up in game one then why are we using Simms?

It's never a good sign when posters don't give the score.

Just started listening: Byrd lunged and missed a wild strike three, which then bounded off Byrd ... and he beat it out ... Perrot scores. UH assistant coach tossed for arguing that Byrd should be called out for intentionally kicking the ball.

Call is overturned ... interference on Bryd is 3rd out. Run does not score. Grrr. Coach is still ejected, JP says.

7-4 UH.

7-4 bottom 6. Unfortunately probably the correct call. No intent from Bryd. But he did make contact with the ball.

Wasn't exactly the opposite call made in one of our games last year when our opponent kicked the ball?

You do realize John is probably going to start Sunday. Just like he did last weekend.
