Those things make them look like storm troopers. They are simply awful.

The contract was a beautiful thing. Probably had some left over from Italy after WWII.
Money to be made. Col. Alben of the Mass State Police with his pointed hat and the sides that morph down....kind of a hat that wants to be a cap.

You're right, those hats are stoopid.

Every time they say Colonel I think of Colonel Hogan, of Hogan's Heroes. His hat came down on the side some, not like that though.

When I think NJ, I think Eye-talian. Must have brought it over from the Old Country.

I thought the Navy had some stupid headwear for the enlisted. These Philly PD hats make the navy's look like fedoras on a gangster.

They have nice plastic jackets.

I like West Virginia's State Police uniforms. They remind me of my drill sergeant...

They look like the NC Highway Patrol unis.

The West Virginia and North Carolina drill sergeant type hats at least have a function, can keep the snow or rain off a lot of their bodies. Always seem like they could throw them also like OddJob or whatever the villain was in James Bond's Goldfinger.

These Mass. hats seem more like a Banana Republic or a cargo plane pilot that has had earphones over his cap for days.
Either that or Marlon Brando in The Wild One where he played a rebel motorcycle gang leader.
