Just to show how inept a coach Wood really was, he put in the 3rd string QB on the next play and he proceeded to throw an interception. Wood just HAAAAD to play a guy that wasn't ready and as a result there went the momentum we had form the first half and built on with the kick.

It was me...I remembered that, but it wasn't a happy memory..

Wasn't that DeFilipo?

Way before an engaging football team and the expanded BFS there was the "Hill". You older guys will know what I am talking about. Party was out of control. First part of semester, Mid-September warmth, clear blue skies, Kegs, couches, chairs, coolers, ice, bikinis, bourbon, beer, blankets, stadium cokes,.... Ah! Then they had to plant pine trees along the fence.....

Conquering the 50 yard line
Snow day North vs. South Keg Drains
Assessment Day North vs. South Keg Drains
Signing the waiver forms in Chip West's office after beating out 23 other people (including a 2004 team member) for the 1 walk-on spot for the Spring - Fall 2005 season.

We used to do keg drains too between the North and South...except we called it Stars vs. Bars!

Not Lefty's biggest win, but the most memorable ending of any game during my time at JMU.

Haha, yep. Please don't leave out the index finger in the air as Hood left the court. It was Bo Jackson-esgue. Especially after hearing the Hey, hey goodbye crap from the AU nerds.

BWE!!!

so you weren't there for RU and midnight sadness for them?

I was there for the Richmond game. Was hammered 2 hours before the game tipped off, along with what seems like the entire student section. Every student was standing for the entire game, and it couldn't have been louder. I remember all the students thinking Vitale would be there doing the color for ESPN, but they ended up sending some third tier guys to do it. Wasn't a great game, as I think the final score was 77-43. Richmond has no chance at all that night - and I don't think they were remotely prepared for how up the guys were, and the crowd that night. That crowd was European Soccer level insane that night - minus the racism and hooliganism.

That was a great experience - but the AU game was a fantastic game - Ron Draper was a hell of a player for them - and the ending was so good, I remember ESPN taking the games ending and putting it in some sort of last second shot highlight package for the network.

Basketball back then was THE sport at JMU - I live in Florida now and see the games on TV today, and find it hard to believe they can't even fill up half of the Convo.

JMU has a very DC sports mentality. If you win, people will show and say they've loved you forever...if you lose, well people just ignore you. See Capitals, Washington.

No, Flip came in when Maddox got hurt and brought us back at the end of the first half. Benny came in for one series as planned by Wood. I should know I was on the field.

'81 Grad & fondly remember(for the most part) having to make way for a train while on the tracks of The Hill, great atmosphere.
Remember the College Farm? Guess it was 20-30 miles or so down Port Republic. Buses would take students to this picnic & farm area & we'd get smashed.
Luigi's, Werner's, & Salad Bar in Chandler Hall (something totally new & different back in those days). Punching cards in the computer lab to load data @ 3.00 a.m.

'85 grad here. The farm was great. I loved that place right on the river. Many a Busch beer were consumed there. My in-laws gave a graduation party there for my wife when she graduated. Good times! I wonder if it still available for use. Would like to go back there sometime and check it out.

You left out Mid-Way market! There is a parking deck where it used to be - attached to Forbes.

RE: Your Memories at JMU
Taking breaks 'tween classes on the hill behind Warren and getting to sit and talk with Uncle Ron, Blue Hole/ Reddish Knob/ and Hone Quarry, the original Greek Row and life there, parties at the college farm, Dime drafts at Gatsbys downtown, too many "lost" friday afternoons at happy hour at the Elbow Room, my fraternity brothers and all the great times, being able to pop in on a proff and talk for an hour if needed, chili and steak and eggs at C and E Diner at 3:30 am, Beginnings out behind the House (with thousands of students partying all day to bands and dozens of kegs), turing a dinner in D Hall into a leisurly and friendly 2 hour break in the day, Sunday drives through the Valley, etc.

Simply perfect!

RE: Your Memories at JMU
Havent seen green hole mentioned. Quarry jumping was pretty awesome if not just flat out dangerous. Had to rescue a girl that had jumped with her boyfriend hand in hand, course he fell considerably faster and she went in with her entire right side of her body exposed and horizontal to the water *SMACK*, completely knocked the wind out of her, easily could have drowned. Thought she was going to need to a hospital visit. 4 wheeling through the woods and down the stream/creek at blue hole in my CJ7.

Threw pizzas at Luigis for a several semesters. Reddish knob rides on my motorcycle. Riding our Mtn bikes down from the Knob (no, helmets weren't even invented then and we probably hit speeds of 30 or better going around those turns.... dumb dumb dumb. Then heading off road through the woods on firetrails and coming across guys in their tree stands. Surprised one of them didn't shoot us for all the hooping and noise we were making. no deer that day!

Pc dukes ballroom, 10,000 maniacs and the cute girl I met there. Echo and Bunnymen and watching my roommate walk along the balcony wall to get where we were sitting. He would have died if he fell. Drugs are bad, kids. Bad*. Post Echo party at the Greemhouse and listening to my friend yell at Echo about how bad they sucked. *See disclaimer above.

I think I could go on for another half page. Damn I'm impressed I'm still alive...

I think the farm was in the arboretum...which back then was 20 or 30 minutes away.

The arboretum is behind the convo. The farm was/is in the area of Port Republic.
