lol. People aren't afraid of Legion Field? That's the first thing people say about it. "I would go, but it's in such a bad area."

The UAB area of downtown is completely different. People aren't scared of Southside. I didn't realize there was confusion about this. Should we start this thread over?

Agreed. Those green hot dogs are the most dangerous things I've ever seen.

I'm sorry but I have one question, the article stated the "There has even been some preliminary "chatter" about having a UAB football game at The Met, though no formal discussions,".

One game, not moving all of their games to the Hoover Met. The second response to the OP made it seem as if UAB was interested in moving their games to the Hoover Met. How did the content of the statement in bold get so taking out of context in this thread?

Haven't you read the propaganda put out by the NRA which is devoted to the "slippery slope" philosophy that one leads to two, which leads to even more and before you know it, all our games will be OTM? (TIC/LOL)

As "B'ham's team" we should play all our games where we (UAB) live.

The city seems to be emerging from the "train wreck" left to it by the uneven leadership of the past several decades so UAB needs to be part of this renaissance event. In 2021, the city will celebrate its sesquicentennial (150th) birthday and I hope UAB will be a vibrant & growing part of that celebration. The city will not be dependent upon any outside committee actions or permissions to carry out that celebration.

You think the idea of playing one game at Hoover Met is stupid? I understand hating the idea of playing football games there on a permanent basis but even one game is stupid as well?

No. Playing on a temporary field that's not designed as a football field is dumb. Legion Field, with all its faults, is a better venue.

Moreover, if we do it and it works, people start to talk it up. You want something to talk up? Talk about getting UAB an on campus stadium like every other damn school in this state. If we play there and it does not sell out for whatever reason, it is yet another attendance black eye. If it fills, then we start getting a bunch of yammer about how we should just stay there.

Dammit, I'm not willing to settle for halfassed. At least Legion Field is a legitimate football field.

I would think if we fill it, people won't talk about staying there. We will build a better case for an ocs.

16,000 sell-out vs. 16,000 20% filled stadium

Supply and demand may create premium pricing, increase donations, etc. JMO

We average more than 16,000. If we don't have 30,000 available for at least the first few games of the season, we'll average 10,000 unless we go undefeated.

16,000 great seats versus 10,000 $hitty ones

You're making my point. Only 6,000 great seats available.

It's simply because the lease at legion field is ending.

We have a lot more bargaining power if legion field isn't our only option.

So probably there's someone out there writing up a proposal on how UAB football could move to the met. They know it will never be approved but it will be used as a bargaining chip for legion field-- maybe we'll demand facilities upgrades or maybe we'll get a much cheaper price.

Maybe in your own head if that is how you want to twist it. But that many bad seats for the bad product UAB has been trying to sell is just going to result in lower attendance. The Met for UAB football is the same OTM crowd talking that is scared to go to the new baseball stadium.
