Anything will sound dumb for about a month. The name doesn't matter in the least

maybe, maybe not...anything close to cusa is still dumb.

it's like trading in a navy saturn for a indigo saturn.

I honestly don't think it matters what the name is, because some people will continue to say it is CUSA 3.0. It will be forgotten in a few years though, especially if we have a few teams make some noise in both major sports...

I don't think, after the first wave of backlash, that they will put 'American' in the name.

It seems to be very divisive among the fans as well.

We will see.

said and done!

The problem is with this EASTERN name...is that Memphis, Cincy, Houston, Tulsa, SMU, and Tulane are not teams in the Eastern footprint of the old Big East. (Cincy would be considered Mid-Eastern, UCF and USF would be South- Eastern)
You need a conference name indicative of the membership as a WHOLE (or is more prevalent), and sadly for you and GA, that name is METRO.
More teams in the to be named conference are in metropolitan cities, than are not...as was the case in the old Metro Conference.

When you consider (after all the teams that are leaving eventually leave) that the major cities in this league will be will be Memphis, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Cincy, Tampa Bay, Orlando, New Orleans, and Tulsa.
Then you have smaller venues (but still pretty Metro-like when we're talking old metro anyway) Greenville, NC, Annapolis, MD, and finally Storrs, CT.
Of all the cities/towns represented...only Storrs,CT doesn't really fit the 'Metro' name brand image-wise....but even the old Metro Conference had teams that didn't fit that...as in Blacksburgh, Virginia, Hattiesburgh, Mississippi.

What you have in Metro Conference as a name...is more indicative of the league than ANYTHING with EAC does.

Old Big East membership has teleconference Wednesday to discuss new name, I'm told. Should happen pretty quickly.

They want to announce before or during the Final Four, since two "Big East" teams are playing.

The Big EACT has great possiblities with marketing and tv slogans, the ship has sailed with traditions names, look at the landscape of the conf as a whole and go for the wow factor and you will get the curious fan to tune in. to see what you are about,

Sure! If they wanna shell out! Heck, I wasn't thinking of a partnership between sponsors -- but if they're willing and will pay! Gotta start thinking a couple steps ahead. Roads, bridges, interstate sections might start being sponsored. With I-40 an I-69 being hot thorougfares, segments and bridges could bring in dough for communities. The possibilities for I-69 are hilarious. But I digress...

High-profile sponsorships could do the same for leagues, if negotiated shrewdly. If conferences continue to exist, it will happen someday.
