I don't like Big or American, I prefer The Metro Conference. How can it get any better than that?

But I'm not a highly paid ad agency, so it's going to be what it's going to be.

I would be happy with that. It doesn't sound idiotic and people could either call it the Metro or the AMC.
It will still be referred to as conference America or Conf. America 2.0

By one local sportswriter who doesn't even write about college sports.

It's a single radio joke that means nothing outside of the Memphis market.

What's worse is being CUSA 3.0.

Maybe there are legal concerns about Metro Conference, specifically from the Metro Atlantic.

"While a name hasn’t been settled on yet, it will likely have “American” in it. According to Mark Blaudshun, “The American Athletic Conference” or “The American Metro Conference” are two possibilities."

That was what Blaudschun posted a couple of days ago. The OP is what he posted today. And in between, he said it would be some combo of Big, American and Metro. I think he has it covered now.

I take that back. He did post that today after the one in the OP. Says right now that American has more support than Metro. I just wish they would make up their damn minds. It's apparently going to sound something akin to CUSA. Whoop.

If the two final choices are indeed American Athletic Conference or American Metropolitan Conference, I will be okay with either one, but would prefer the AMC.

A big hell no to American Athletic Conference. They'll call us Conference America for sure.

And Aresco has shown a great tendency to get singular opportunities right.

Metro in itself is an indication of a big population area and adding BIG to the name is redundant. All adding BIG to the name is going to do is to emphasize the fact that it is no longer the BIG EAST.

Wow. I actually agree with you about something.

For all of the above reasons I prefer National Athletic conference (NAC).

No reference to something previous, something new - better than where we have been in CUSA in recent years, a lot better than staying in CUSA come this fall but less than we had thought or hoped for. Like I said, something new & improved. Any reference to America, big, great or metro is going backward......

And American-Eastern-Oblong-Ultra-Incredible are such great starts for an NCAA league. But hey, if you want to sound second rate, name it Eastern or American something-or-other; after CUSA it's not like we don't have experience with our league getting bashed, I just assumed most people were tired of that.

But the conference isn't national. The footprint is entirely within the eastern half of the US. The centroid is further east than that of the SEC.

I agree.

The Metro is not going backwards. In fact, the Big East was founded on the promise of being as successful as The Metro was. Metro is legacy with former members Memphis, Cincy and Tulane. The Metro won two national championships.
