It is not at all easy: you've got to be good and lucky. Huggs' teams were plenty good, but not lucky. Hard to hold that against the coach. Cronin's teams just aren't that good.
That is a laughable justification. It was all luck, right.
This is exactly why I think it's funny when I hear things like, this is the University of Cincinnati... there should be no excuses! Yet, it's been nothing but excuses over the years to try and lessen the blow of the countless tournament failures.

RE: End of Year 7
If you told me at the 1992 final four that we would go to an Orange Bowl and a Sugar Bowl before another final four I would have called you insane...
It is at times like these that I like to remind myself that Xavier has done none of the above, and probably never will.
That said, I still only want to witness two things before I die: one national championship in basketball and to beat the Suckeyes in Columbus in football. Anything else would be just gravy. Of course winning the national championship in basketball over Kentucky...

Would the three freshman starters you refer to be role players on a decent team? We should know the answer long about January of 2014.
Will Mick sign one or two more top 50 prospects next November?
Will the Reds win the World Series?
Will the world end before these things are revealed to us?

Wouldn't surprise me. This is likely Cronin's best class yet. But this time it's not a lead in to a bare cupboard.

I am still waiting on the team that runs and presses 40 minutes,In the earlier years the excuse was we dont have the players,I dont know what the problem is now.I do know the offense-style they play is not effective and it is not fun to watch!!

Very surprised that we did not trap them or get any fast break points.
Preseason ranked in all of they publications, lots of hype, etc. No elite 8, no final fours, not sure if next season is any better.
I'm not surprised by the result. Creighton can shoot, hit free throws, and play smart bball. I'll take that over athletic low bball IQ. The better team won today.
Listened to the post game. Coach Davis called this a great year. Can't say I agree with his opinion. He highlighted we are one of the few BE schools to go to 3 straight NCAA's. I guess if this is their goal, then good for them. Hope they plan on making great 8's or Final 4's at some point.
First round exit last 2 of 3 years is not good. Huggs never did as poorly in any three year period until ths year.

Most successful coaches have a certain style they want to play and recruit to that style. Does Mick have a preference ? How many times have we heard one thing and something completely different ensues. My opinion he needs to find what out what he and his coaching staff are best at and start recruiting to that style. All we get now is a mishmosh of who knows what.

Nah, Mick has no idea what type of style he wants to play. The team just lucked into being rated among the country's elite in terms of rebounding, blocked shots, and defense.
It amazes me how the positives of this program continually get overlooked.

His style is exactly the same as Pitino. Very tough defense and just let scorers do what they do on offense. Problem is we have scorers like UL has.

What defense, 12-0 against crap teams, losing record against better teams. No way was this team elite in anything except how to play stupid basketball, all you had to do was watch the Creighton game, we got outrebounded, out hustled, out defensed and out coached. Every time we were ready to take the lead, somebody did something extremely stupid to take that advantage away. If he wants to play like Pitino then why did we quit pressing and trapping when we started playing better teams. Have a system and recruit to it.

UC does not press and trap like Louisville. Not sure what happened with this team after beating ISU and Oregon and then starting conference play looking good.

It's gonna be interesting to see if Mick goes with the same old same old next season or starts mixing in some new blood. Obviously S K will be given a chance to redeem his lousy junior season. Rubles...........well, uh..........I guess if he promises to never shoot a three pointer again. JJ? Is he going to suddenly play smarter?
I always like the seasons where there's alot of new blood. Sets me up for a huge letdown. LOL.

RE: End of Year 7
Cronin has rebuilt the program from scratch in the toughest bball league in the country. When I mean from scratch, I mean zero returning talent, and a hugely divided fan base. 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments and a sweet sixteen appearance are commendable.
Am I p$ssed with the team's performance this year? H3lls yes. But the program is still on the rise, recruiting seems to be getting better, and the fan base is buying in. I think we will be okay.
