Rice vs. UT-SA (Wednesday Game)
Only changes in the lineup are: (1) Aquino moving back up to cleanup, (2) Perrott starting, and (3) Fox playing 1B against right-hander-- which isn't really a surprised since he pitched 2.1 innings last night and won't be available on the mound this evening...

Rice lineup: Byrd CF, Stainback SS, Stringer 2B, Aquino DH, Teykl 3B, Cook LF, Fox 1B, Ratterree RF, Perrott C, McDowell P. 6:30 PM start.
I am a bit surprised Fox is batting ahead of Rat in the lineup. I would have broken up the string of left-handed batters a bit, and batted Rat 7th. Of course, Ewing is likely to pinch hit for Fox if a left-hander comes in with runners in scoring position.

That line up feels like it has a few runs in it tonight and with McDowell pitching, that is all Rice will need. Everybody hits tonight. Have fun.

STringer is certainly due to have a big game and break out of his week-long slump. Here's hoping Chase regains the form he flashed against Hawaii and Cal earlier this year.

Quick T1 for Chase. 1st two outs on 2 pitches and them a K looking on a 3-2 count.

RE: Rice vs. UT-SA (Wednesday Game)
Strong 1-2-3 first inning for Chase (ground out, infield pop, strikeoutK). Let's strike early and often before UT-SA goes to their outstanding and deep bullpen.
Byrd flied out to LF.
Stainback singled to CF, advanced to 2B on E-8. One out.
Stringer struck out looking. Geez, is Christian pressing at the moment. This guy had 1 K in 3.0 IP prior to tonight.
Aquino grounded out to SS.
Deja vu all over again. Yet another wasted opportunity where we had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs, and fail to convert.
Scoreless heading to the top of the second inning.

RE: Rice vs. UT-SA (Wednesday Game)
Leadoff runner reached on E-6, but was quickly erased on a rare 7-3 double play. Very nice throw by Cook, but stupid baserunning there by UT-SA. Final out was a simple ground out. So far, Chase is pounding the strike zone and being very efficient with his pitches.
Teykl deep fly out to CF.
Cook first pitch opposite field single (Keenan's trademark!).
Fox line single to RF. Runners on the corners, one out. And another scoring opportunity. Can we get a pitch to drive?...
Cook caught stealing. WHY, given that the catcher has thrown out 74% of basestealers so far this year. Stupid, especially with a runner on 3B. No other way to put it. Just took away the sac fly possibility.
Ratterree grounded out to SS.
This offense is beyond belief in it's ____ (fill in the blank with your own term). Let's just keep taking ourselves out of scoring chances.
Scoreless heading to the top of the third inning.

It was Fox that was caught stealing and I believe it was a hit and run bunt attempt which Ratt missed.

It was, but does this team know what a sacrifice fly is?

Sorry about the player mix-up. Cannot believe coach would call for a hit and run with one out and a runner at 3B. Makes ABSOLUTELY no sense whatsoever; even moreso with a slow runner at 1B. Why take the bat out of Rat's hands in that situation, when you're looking for a ball to drive into the OF (not simply make contact)?

That is a rhetorical question, right?

In less than two games, 3 runners stranded after reaching third with one out.

It looked to me that was Ratt's 2nd missed bunt attempt in that AB. Of course the ground ball he hit to SS was a tailor made DP ball, so who knows. It's baseball.

RE: Rice vs. UT-SA (Wednesday Game)
Chase looking as strong as he's been all year. 1-2-3 inning (ground out, two strikeoutsKKK). Can the offense go through an inning without tripping over itself and self-destructing?
Perrott leadoff single to CF. Money!
And, on cue, UT-SA goes to the bullpen with Jr LHP Walker (1.59 ERA, 1 BB, 4 Ks, 5.2 IP). Expect this parade of bullpen arms-- one better than the next-- to continue all night...
Byrd flied out to CF. So much for moving up the runner/...but then again, we can't get a guy in from 2B anyway.
Stainback hits into 6-4-3 double play, as the futility continues.
Scoreless heading into the top of the fourth inning.
