RE: Fox Sports Press Release
it sounds like a lot of games- but keep in mind, there are 90 conference basketball games alone. So just at 100, that'd be 10 OOC games. more likely like 4-5 OOC games each, leaving about 50-60 conference games left for telecast.

But presumably there will be a sizable chunk of games that will be telecast on other channels leaving very few games that are not covered...

not every conference game will get telecast. if we had 60 telecast- that'd leave like 30 or about 6 per team that don't get shown. also, after those 4-5 OOC games, there's still like another 5-6 OOC home games that don't get shown.

Certainly. FOX owns the rights to all Big East men's basketball games, and they ain't buying them to not show them. They'll be on somewhere. FS2, RSNs, ESPN sublicensing, maybe CBS buying a couple.
Was the old saying about a meat company that they used every part of the pig, including the squeal?

FoxSports1 "is slated to televise over 100 men’s regular-season basketball games next season." The entire Big East Tournament will be on FS1.
No mention of FoxSports2.
The story links to DePaul and only DePaul.
Fox Sports 2 hasn't officially been announced yet (unlike Fox Sports 1), even though it's considered to a fait accompli, so I think that's why it isn't reference. I'd assume that a number of Big East games will end up there.

I really don't see the ESPN sublicensing from Fox's side at all. Certainly none of the better games. Maybe some of the weaker games, but that would be all quite frankly.

Perhaps not many but certainly some OOC road games (even great ones) could end up there

definitely- but that isn't under control of the fox contract- that would be at the contract holder of the opponent(so say at Syracuse- ESPN).

We regularly get assured that ESPN and Fox will continue to sublicense games back and forth. I'm skeptical, but I think Fox sells the game to ESPN-U before Fox lets the game go un-aired. On that note, I wonder if FoxSports2 ends up with some MAC or SBC or Aresco League games on Saturdays.
The point is, Fox will find some way to either show the game or sell it to someone who will.

I thought they were both announced. Still, it's 100 games on FoxSports1. Whether the rest are on FoxSports2 or RSNs isn't that crucial.

Why are we assuming those 100 games are all for the Big East?

Good catch. This is a Fox press release. It's possible (unlikely) that the 100 means 10 PAC games, 10 Big 12 games (I forget if they have Big 12 basketball), 5 Big West games, 10 BTN games on some sort of sublicense, 10 ACC and 5 SEC third-tier games, and 50 Big East games.
Possible, but unlikely.

RE: Fox Sports Press Release
Why wouldn't they show 100 Big East games? Are you going to tell me that there won't be 100 top-flight games every year in this conference?
If there are 5 NCAA tourney teams in a given year in this conference, with a double-round-robin that's 120 conference games that are prime-time worthy, not counting OOC. Figure it won't be a full double-round-robin and make it 100 games. Obviously it works out a bit differently from that, but it's a decent ballpark estimate.
Fox will easily get their money's worth on this contract. They're getting a ton of quality inventory to launch their channel. 100 games is one primetime game for 6 days a week for the whole season (although with doubleheaders they won't do it that way).

Even with 100+ conference games many of them will not be the best to have on TV. I mean, Im sure youre going to see huge ratings with that Creighton/Depaul game (especially the east coast where most viewers will probably come from). There are plenty of other matchups that just will not draw large ratings. Unless youre GT or maby one or two other schools, do any of the BE teams have a large national following?

There will be 90 conference games next year, with 10 teams playing a round-robin. A 12-school, 16 game schedule would be 96 games, a 12-school 18-game schedule would be 108 games. Plus OOC games.
Even a matchup like Seton Hall-SLU, with both teams struggling to make the NIT, is still live sports. The whole point of Fox signing the Big East is that each of the teams has a sizable local following, enough to make a dent in cable TV viewership numbers.

They need some really hot sideline announcers, wearing some revealing outfits. That'll bring in a national audience.

They did steal Erin Andrews from ESPN. Though I always thought while hot, was overrated.

She is terrible in studio (FOX) or one a set (ESPN's GameDay)....her forte was sideline/courtside reporting.
Her reading a teleprompter in a studio is about enjoyable as watching paint dry.
