RE: Carmody is out at Northwestern
So is Chris Collins who likely will be offered the job if he has not been already. He would be a very nice get for NU

No way is Collins coming to Northwestern to rebuild. Just ask DD and MM the difference between reloading and rebuilding.

In all reality, how many times has the name Chris Collins poped up as a potential head coch ?

Not only is NU a very tough place to build a winner, but I gotta think Collins is the "HC in Waiting" at Duke. He is the Associate (not Assistant) Head Coach there now.

The stuff I read earlier suggested that Collins basically told NU that he is interested in the job

Wojo also has the same title. I don't think Duke is going to appoint a guy without head experience as head coach whenever K retires, so Collins will probably have to go prove himself somewhere, and a school like Northwestern seems like a good fit to me. He's thrown his name into the hat for jobs in the past as well.

Brey's done ok at ND. But other than that, has anyone from the Coach K tree amounted to anything?

Does Amaker count? Failed at Michigan but seems to have found the right spot at Harvard, where he's having a lot of success.
It's a lot of blah though with guys like Dawkins just kind of treading water and Quin Snyder having fallen off the face of the Earth. Capel didn't do anything at Oklahoma (other than when Blake Griffin was there) after building VCU up.

After looking at Duke's bball page trying to know who these guys are, that place is quite the inner circle. All Duke alums within the staff, looks like there's a cult out in Durham.

You gotta give a coach 10 full recruiting classes before you oust him/her!

As UIHuskie noted, Amaker has Harvard in the NCAA field and Dawkins is still the head coach at Stanford. Capel is back at Duke, while Snyder and Bob Bender (ex-Washington HC) are NBA assistants.

RE: Carmody is out at Northwestern
so in 38 years of being a head coach, he produced one guy (Brey-.661 winning %) that has done well, a guy that has done ok ( a .587 winning percentage) in Amaker, Dawkins who has won 75 and lost 59, a guy who was on his daddy's staff at VCU and won a bit (.658) then was in a scandal at Oklahoma and got fired (career win % =.636) but never was part of Coach K coaching tree until after a head coach but did play for him. And of course we have Bob Bender of ISU fame with his .467 lifetime head coaching record.
There is nothing to suggest Coach K develops good coaches--the best coach he ever had on his staff was Brey and one really can't count Capel as his daddy trained him. Not a very spectular "coaching tree" to suggest the current guys, Collins included, would win at the D1 level......the supposed star was Quinn Snyder who was only 35 games over .500 and was fired in the midst of a scandal......

Well, hell, we've had ten recruiting classes in the last three years. Does that count?

It doesn't count unless guys graduate, of course. Or at least attend the school.

And the point is what? You don't like Duke? Not suggesting any of those folks would be a good fit here or even at Northwestern, but ...
Mark Montgomery (.164 / 10-51), Ricardo Patton (.297 / 35-83), Rob Judson (.429 / 74-101).
These guys make Bender look good and can you ever imagine anyone getting fired from NIU in the midst of scandal.
