Yep. That state is screwed. Fat, poor education system, aging population, decline in the coal industry due to cheap natural gas, poor infrastructure, etc. The obesity epidemic there is going to put a huge financial strain on that state in coming years.

For a state that has had billions of dollars worth of natural resources extracted from it, it has nothing to show for it. ND has turned their mineral wealth (oil & gas) into billion dollar surpluses and high paying jobs in only a few short years. WV did...well I don't really know what WV did...but whatever they did, they did it wrong.

I should really send my parents money out of every paycheck to thank them for leaving that state when they turned 18. Most of my family remains in WV and virtually all of them are fat and poor....and also some of the most unhappy and unpleasant people I've ever met.

Sorry WV people. I don't mean to hate on your state, but it really is a sad story. Your state has been poorly run and put too much of an emphasis on only a few industries which are now a shell of their former selves. It is truly a sad sad story and I get depressed every time I go back to visit family.

I am just hoping the people here in Arizona don't read this thread because Arizona has more than it's share of negative stats. We have a governor here that actually didn't graduate from high school but did get a GED. She claims a high school degree, but it is really a GED certificate. We have an education system that I actually laughed at when I was doing a show on education and got to tour some schools here and when I was about done I told the person escorting me, they made Mississippi look on the level of a top notch education system.

I think you have one of the best Governors in the country.

actually it isn't the Mexicans. I have lived here for almost 6 years and the biggest problem I see is that we have adopted the idea that we don't want to pay any taxes, but we want the roads good, school system good, and all the other stuff that private industry doesn't do because their isn't money to be made in it.

Education score reduction equals Mexican influx. Period. I was there. I saw it and listened. The lack of taxation is relevant to infrastructure...but the education scores are irrelevant to this issue.

...and the roads are infinitely better than here both in layout and condition.
