you are way to smart to be posting here
well done
This is actually a comparatively cerebral crowd. Ever read the mouth-breathers on $EC boards?

My wife is an academic scholar. One of the things I learned from her is that in a dynamic field, where current models and theories quickly come and go, it's an open field for new scholars. On a real prosaic, utilitarian level--casting about for a dissertation topic if nothing else--it's far easier to make a mark than in more "settled" fields of knowledge.

I would argue that any subject has enough unsettled cracks in it to offer plenty of research opportunities to someone who is interested and capable. Any field that is "adjusting a few numbers after the decimal place" is ripe for something revolutionary to happen. With new sensing technology and amazing amounts of computing power casually available to anyone, I think there are no shortage of original reseach theses available.
And congrats JD. The hood and stripes feel awfully nice once you've earned them. Although Olive, sky and golden must look slightly odd together.

Congrats. One of my fellow old classmates has a brother that went to Tulane Med School for his PhD - he's doing quite well for himself.

Congrats for getting in and good luck! I'm guessing you may be cutting back on your posting once you get into things? Or is this your place to blow off steam?

I bet there might be a certain story involving a ginger, a swimmer, a urinated mattress, and a carrot in a paper somewhere.

That was my entrance essay
This is my venting platform. I use athletics as a way to breathe off the steam of a long.... LONG... LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG day. Some of what I do is behavior oriented so I can sit in the same room doing the same task for 6-7 hours. While fun... sometimes you go a little
I look forward to treating you all in the future for your crazy trips after Tulane goes undefeated next year

My wife was in the humanities, and too often research--in her opinion--became as meaningless as the "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" type of thing. Though, there is probably always someone who can come along and can break out the logjam.
In something like the sciences, I imagine it's entirely different.
