It's ok. We all know how you really feel. The game won't be a big deal until you actually beat us. Then it will mean EVERYTHING.
I feel bad for the Georgia Southern fans. A loss to State will happen much sooner than any of you realize and there will be Southern fans immediately calling for the coach to be fired.
In the modern era:
Georgia Southern is 21-1 against Western Carolina.
Georgia Southern is 22-4 against UT-Chattanooga.
Georgia Southern is 17-5 against The Citadel.
Unless Georgia State pulls off a MAJOR turnaround, these are their athletic peers. Do upsets happen? Of course! It's college football.
But they are very rare.
If you truly believe that a FBS program located in Atlanta has anything in common with those forever FCS programs, you aren't as intelligent as I've given you credit for.
Those aren't their athletic peers, not in football, the closest thing Georgia State has to an athletic peer in football currently is South Alabama.
So you are guaranteeing a victory this fall over UTC and Samford?

I hope GaSt gets better but right now it's really hard to believe. I think the first meeting will be a blood bath. But who knows, if their new coach comes in strong then the past doesn't mean a thing.
What do you mean it's hard to believe they'll get better? They've played what? a little over thirty games? They are going to be fine. They're going to have one of the largest budgets in the Sun Belt and they are in one of the top four high school football states in the country, something only Texas State(and potentially Georgia Southern) can also say among Sun Belt members.

GA St. will by definition get better, unless they drop football they can't get worse.
But serious question who is GA St.'s #1 rival?

Like you WISH we would not join the SBC?
The tone of State fans has changed quiet a bit in the past year. Last year SaintDK was calling us a bunch of poor white trash rednecks that would never in a million years get the budget to move... and here we are...
Now its the "Oh we don't care if they join. We care so little... I can't even tell you about it, because I don't care enough to write about how much I don't care. Their program is just so meh."

Yes you do. And funny how we're not questioning how good you willl be in the future based on "I hate you". Logic dictates that USA will get a few god ones considering the area they are in and that they are FBS now. So what does logic dictate about a school that plays in the Ga Dome, has a state of the art Football Complex and plays smack dab in the middle of the #4 recruiting ground in the country and has just hired a HC who turned around one of the worst programs in FCS history?

I'm certainly not guaranteeing anything, but even if State were to lose to one or both of those programs next year, it doesn't make them peers, if they lose to one or both programs this fall it's because they're still experiencing growing pains in just their fourth season of football. If you think in another five years Georgia State will be "peers" with UTC, Samford, or any other FCS school, you are a moron.
The fact that Georgia State has been competitive with South Alabama(1-1 both games decided by single digits) should be proof enough that they're coming along just fine. 2012 was South Alabama's fourth season of football and they went 2-12 only beating Nichols State and FAU, but they played plenty of SBC games fairly close and most Sun Belt fans seem to think South Alabama is going to be just fine. So unless Georgia State goes 0-12 this year and is non competitive in every game I don't think there's any cause for concern.

That is true, but you would think with the advantages you discussed above, they would have dominated their FCS and D2 competition. For some reason, that didn't happen.

You guys will be competitive at this level, in the SBC or C-USA, where ever you may be. However, you will still fight to get 10k people to your games. It just is that way. I don't see that changing. If it does I will gladly be the first to say how happy I am to have Ga St in the SBC, but until then, you get no repect.
You also need to understand, Ga Southern is you best chance at a good instate rival and a very nice attendance game. Embrace them, don't hate them. You can hate us, after all, we hate you.

They went 1-11 last year in FCS and every game was over by halftime. Their 1 win was against 0-12 Rhode Island.
I would be concerned.

Youre confusing a lot of statements there. I cant speak for SaintDk but I can bet his sentiments havent changed. I am sure you're forgetting the kindly ole folks at GSUFans ambushing him on your message board and your daily hymm that begins with Atlanta/Gay State is a gay, black, bum ridden cesspool.
Now for the dont care part. I have never cared about you guys. I walk down the street and a troll approaches me. Do I care about the roll? No. The troll punches me so I punch him back. Now I dont like the troll. Still dont care. And you will find that most GSU alumni do not care for this matchup.
And another thing. I never said GS was meh.I never said your program was meh. You have a great FCS football program. What I said is that most GSU fans could care less to play you. BIG difference.

I'm sorry my first sentence is confusing, I meant it's hard to imagine GaSt beating GaSo after having played them both twice in the past 2 years. Of course they can and should improve, hell they really can't get much worse than where they were last season.

What is the highest attended USA football game? The 2nd?
As for GS and high attendance...LOL
Our best chance at high attendance is a2 for1 with Georgia Tech.Anyone who lives in Atlanta and knows history will agree. A game with GS will not break 26k.

WCU and UTC are large (20k+) public universities with no history of athletic success. I don't see how being in Atlanta is going to magically make Georgia State better. WCU and UTC recruit Atlanta too.
If the difference is that State will be FBS, well, we will too. We've held our own quite well against teams on our same level. (10-1 against UCF for instance).
WCU and UTC are not located in nearly the talent hot bed that Georgia State is and the fact that they are FBS will open recruiting doors for them.
The UCF comparison is flawed. In that instance, you were both FCS, but they had very little history or tradition and you had it in spades. When you and Georgia State are both FBS, your FCS tradition won't mean a hill of beans to the kids you are each recruiting. Your winning tradition may be talking point that will win some head to head recruiting battles, but that winning tradition is only going to last so long. Your first few years when you're winning 3-5 games you'll be able to say "these are just our growing pains, look at our past, we don't accept mediocrity, we're going to win at a high level in FBS like we did FCS" but after your first decade of FBS ball when you have a couple of bowl trips, maybe even a Sun Belt championship or two, but haven't won 10 games once and still have the intermittent losing season, your winning tradition is going to be ancient history to 18 year old kids and at the FCS level, a level hopefully very few of your recruits are even considering playing at.
Look, if I were saying today who I think will win more football games in their first ten years of FBS ball, I'd say Georgia Southern, but it sounds like some of you think Georgia Southern is going to be Boise State and Georgia State is going to be UAB and that's simply not the case in either regard.

What is the highest attended USA football game? The 2nd?
As for GS and high attendance...LOL
Our best chance at high attendance is a2 for1 with Georgia Tech.Anyone who lives in Atlanta and knows history will agree. A game with GS will not break 26k.
Exciting prospects for the future of Georgia State football right here.
