Yeah, I was on the fence about the argument, especially at the end of the WMU game where NIU grew the lead when he was out, then blew it awfully when he returned, but it's never on one guy alone.

NIU may be absolutely awful on the court but Toledo got banned from the MAC tourney..how bad is that?

Only problem was that the NCAA took 3 years to punish a team that had nothing to do with the sanctions

I thought the ban was from a crappy APR or was it from the point shaving scandal?

Just take the entire basketball program. We'll use the money we save to schedule real football teams. Everyone will be happy.

That's what happens when you make a hire based upon a recommendation from Notre Dame's staff.

NIU fans....should really...really...save the smack talk for football season.

Why? Toledo sucks and is a miserable place now, as it will be during football season.

Illinois is an amazing place to live. High taxes and tons of crime. Chicago is going down the toilet.

I live in Chicagoland and have for 7 years. Spent 26 years in either greater Toledo or greater Cincinnati areas and I like all 3. Each has something different to offer but none are "armpits" or wastelands like some NIU fans on here always seem to mention. My family in Ohio think that Chicago is dangerous and littered with crime and "would never live there." People on this board talk about the ?smell? of Toledo and have even compared it to Gary or Detroit. Both are major misconceptions. I love most of what Toledo has to offer and love most of what Chicagoland has to offer. Generally speaking of the true character of people as human beings, Toledoans or more accurately, Ohioans are much better people. There is a much lower level of trust among people around here...people always seem to be waiting for the letdown and it probably comes from history. As far as the "smell" of Toledo, I'll say this...I spent my first week here with a nasty sinus infection and have always attributed it to the adjustment to the air quality.

Anyway, we have a lot of murders here (around 500 last year) but those are generally isolated to the south and west sides and this is a huge city of like 8 million ppl in the Chicagoland area. In terms of population, that would equate to about 47 murders in the greater Toledo area in a year which I would guess would be in the ballpark and I would guess that most of those would occur in either the neighborhoods that end in "wood," the east side, or the far northeast part of the city (I'm thinking the area near Detroit avenue on the northend. Worst part of Chicagoland in my opinion is the taxes as mentioned and corrupt politicians and police. Also, it's a very clean city for being such a large city so that's how I've always rationalized the taxes.

To sum it up: I wish I could live in both places.

This is what our attendance looks like when the team has something more than pride to play for. This is our women's game tonight...they average more in attendance than all of the MAC Men's teams except Toledo men and Ohio men.

Next year, the place will be packed for men's games.

Oh, I just love that idea. It sounds so nice and proper. The only problem is, which you probably dont remember, were all the NIU folks concentrating on our "problem" with that isssue that occured almost five years ago. You guys are now having problem "s" and we would now like to concentrate on your "problems" (PLURAL)

You are correct. I wouldn't call Toledo an armpit. It's more like a crotch. It's a good place to stop and use the bathroom when driving to the East Coast. Though it is a problem trying to find clean facilities.
If Nader is still in Toledo, send him home. Sure, the kid can't play basketball, but that's not a good enough reason to be condemned to Toledo.

You mean like the FB games where UT beat the spreads. The couple of FB players involved didn't point shave but conspired to. It was not an institutional issue. BB, a different story with missed freethrows and fieldgoals. Again, a few players involved not the institution. NIU and the rest of the MAC benefitted from this turmoil by virtue of a weakened UT. It's taken the programs this long to recover from the treachery of those individuals. UT FB and BB have become stronger, having taken this
proverbial kick in the butt.

It's funny, they like to make fun of us for a gambling issue, but their issue involves their police chief - you know, the guy who is in charge of protecting everyone on campus. NIU's issue is wayyy worse than a gambling one. And our issue was, what, 5+ years ago? Everyone - all coaches and athletes - are all gone now.
