That is great, but the only problem is what is good for the individual does not gel with what is good for the athletic program and university. Let's be honest, an untrained chimp could set up Soldier Field games and schedule away Big 10 games. While providing some short-lived monetary relief, these games are empty calories for growth. It amazes me the AD does not realize and/or not care about this, but it is extremely frustrating as a Huskie fan.

Correct me if wrong though that despite whatever shortcomings he may have been perceived to have had, at least Phillips got Maryland, Wake Forest and Iowa State to come to DeKalb for a game

All of those accomplishments belong to the previous AD Cary Groth. Scheduling went downhill when Phillips took over. Its no coincidence that is when attendance took a nosedive.

jim phillips had short comings? are you crazy, thias is a guy who could have any AD job in the country. many of you are too young to realize how bad it was getting an AD at NIU. Cary got the job by default and did a decent job and had the good sense to move on when she felt she hit the ceiling. Phillips put us in a position where this is a very good AD job.

He has the same shortcomings as Compher in that the scheduling has been completely neglected. We finally have started to see the reprecussions of the neglect with fans just not wanting to go to Huskie Stadium anymore. I dont blame them ONE bit. Take this year for example, you may not have a Huskie home game until late September, against an FCS team. And after that you may have only 2 SATURDAY FBS OPPONENTS the rest of the year, and they will probably be very bad matchups with the two games that anyone will want to see stuck on ESPN weeknights. There is not one single reason for the casual fan to buy a season ticket this year. Compher really laid an egg on this one. What hurts is this could have really been a momentum gathering year with the Orange Bowl and fan excitement. The only problem with the Orange Bowl, is now Im afraid Compher will stick with weak schedule because they were successful with it before. But when you draw 11k a game this year for an Orange Bowl team, that is going to be a huge wake up call for him I hope.

Phillips was on OK businessman, but he can't hold Groth's jock when it comes to being an AD. Groth laid the foundation for football success. Phillips fed off the success, and was a beneficiary of it, not the creator of it.

you are delusional. Carys claim is she stuck with Joe. Phillips built the infrastructure from there and Jeff has continued. You don't know how good Phillips and Compher are

She was also an excellent people person who enjoyed connecting with the fans. I'll never forget her at the basketball games at Evans shaking the fans' hands as they left the game and thanking them for coming.

and she personally told me that fund raising was not something she enjoyed and felt she reached hed peak at niu. I liked her but she knew she was limited

Kinda odd how she then went on to a bigger program in the same position.

A 9 game schedule is ok.

A 10 game schedule would hurt NIU and the MAC.

If he has inside info that the B1G is going to 9 then I agree with his statement.

If he does not have knowledge of 9 or 10 games then he is just giving a safe PR response as usual...which is fine for his position.

I think he is confident in our relationship with Wisconsin, Iowa, etc. as it pertains to continuing to schedule each other.

...this theory of course does not apply to the 2 cowardly B10 schools based in Illinois as they are not scheduling us anyway.

NU + U of Illinois = Wuss (half wimp and half p*ssy)

So NIU was holding her back from hiring people who could make up for her limitations? How many assistant ADs did she have?

Money = Clout

We have neither.
