Funny thing about Old Miss.

I was listening to The Herd on ESPN Radio on my way to work on National Signing Day and he was explaining why good players go to Ole Miss. He gave 3 reasons...

1. SEC

2. Beautiful Campus (compared to other SEC schools)

3. VERY VERY Easy courses.

If I go it would be on a 6-8 day cruise. Ive heard that the 3-4 night cruise attracts the drinking, party crowd. I would be looking for just a casual cruise. One where there was no formal nights. And would like to do the Wester Caribbean.

I've been on two so far, both 5 days, both with Carnival (I've looked at other lines but I can't see what benefit I'm going to get from the extra $1000). There was a little bit of the party crowd but whatever, I'm a Pirate, I spent seven years of my life with that crowd. I would advise that as the best length for a first-timer, because if you hate it, it's only five days. We're going on a seven day in a couple of months, but it took me a couple of cruises to decide I wanted to be on the ship an extra couple of days.

As far as formal nights, you don't have to participate on most ships. You don't even have to go to the main dining room (where formal attire would be worn) if you don't want.

I think going to the MDR and formal dress is kind of what makes it a good value. The food is unlimited and pretty good in the MDR on Royal Caribbean. I couldn't fathom eating in the buffet for dinner.

RE: OT: Cruise ship...
I've been on 6 cruises to various destinations on several different cruise lines and every one of the trips was awesome. Their are thousands of trips taken each year and minimal stuff happens.

The chances of that happening to you are highly unlikely and if it keeps you from going on a cruis ethen great that just gives me a better shot at getting the cabin I want.

FYI... ALWAYS get a balcony room.

No thanks. Been there done that and would never go back. We stayed there for awhile then we took a cruise out of PR. Not a fan of that place nor the many people we encountered on the island and on the ship. It takes a lot to get under my skin and this people did it.

MuAto, what was the problem. Give me a few reasons so that I don't jump at going there. I know my wife has been there and she didn't encounter any problems. Was it the food or were the people too pushy or rude or both?

Don't get me wrong we met many great people but we met many that seemed to have an attitude towards my wife and I for reasons we couldn't figure out. This happened at our hotel and out and about. Then on the ship we encountered the same attitude. I'm a very outgoing person that can make friends in any room or situation. I'm friendly and pretty much love all people even if I completely disagree with your politics, religion, sports, etc. so I don't want you to think I just didn't like people for no reason. We also encountered many to be rude other than just salty attitudes toward us but impaitent, often basic manners like standing in line and waiting your turn or being polite and letting elderly people pass or holding the door open. For instance the pictures. If youve been on a cruise ship you know they take many pictures well I lost track of the amount of times that we encountered people just walking up with an obvious line and just expecting to get their picture taken. One time in particular an older woman and probably 4 or 5 family members walked up to the front. At first I thought they were going to cross butthey stood their. I heard on of them say There is a line and the reply was yea were in the front. They said these people are talking about my wife and I. The reply was that's what they think. Of course I'm not afraid of conflict from anyone or anything so I spoke up and said really? You think you're going to cut in front of all of us? Sure enough when the people were done a few of them walked right on up and stood like it was their turn. I of course stopped that real quick and the photographer agreed. Told them the line started back there and pointed as did many others in line. The woman with the mouth and fat belly gave me a dirty look and said something under her breath. I told her to say it to my face and I'd be happy to dump her and her family overboard. I got a cheer for that comment from the crowd in line. There were actually many instances and stories where there seemed to be no manners for waiting in line for anything from food to getting off the boat for shore excursions to being on shore excursions to drinks from the bar and many more stories. It got to the point where we would witness it and laugh because it alsmot seemed unreal. I even googled PR and waiting in line wondering if it was a cultural difference but didn't find anything. We did come away with a catchy nickname for those that we kept encountering while on the cruise.

PRI aka Puerto Rican Idiot

Again it takes a lot to get on my nerves as I have thick skin and am very understanding to the point it sometimes annoys my wife but after the weeks I spent there and on the cruise it was nice to get back on the plane and get back to the good ole USA.

Side note: I've had friends that have gone there and had a great time as well as family members that have been there that had nothing but great things to say. We've also had some friends that went there and had similitude stories as we had, so don't let my story ruin a chance to visit a great place. To us there are far too many other great places to visit to go back there.

been to puerto rico. it was completely awesome. the people were great. food was great. the coffee was unbelievable. I spent most every night dancing with the puerto rican chicas and drinking rum with their boyfriends. I would go back in a second. San Juan is a lot of fun and the rest of the island is beautiful.

As for MU ATO. some people have bad experiences. it happens everywhere. it happens on the US mainland too. Sucks that it is true but it's just a fact of life. Sometimes things just dont go your way.

I've found beer bottles to be a little unusual from the OM crowd.

Most of the bottles I've had thrown at me from that crowd had Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels, or Southern Comfort labels on them as they whizzed by.

Seriously though, that is the worst crowd I've ever seen about throwing whiskey bottles. It's like a tradition there.

I haven't been to a ton of SEC campuses but I just spent a weekend at LSU last month for my kids swim meet and I thought that campus was pretty with the various lakes and parks surrounding it.

memphis had to play down there for their first night game back in the early 90s and the game was delayed about 25 minutes when they scored late to take a lead and their students started throwing bottles at our bench. unfortunatley, many of the bottles fell short and cut the hell up out of their cheerleaders. the refs moved our sideline to the south endzone to finish the game and made the tiger fans sitting in the lower sections leave the stadium by going down on the field and out the player entrances.

just THE single worst ever to go as a visiting fan. its a bad stadium and awful drunk fans everywhere.

We had a blast both places and the people were nothing but nice. Never felt threatened or anything.
