there was supposedly a group from up here in Northeast Louisiana and one woman said that she's never going anywhere near a cruise ship again

reports I have heard and read it sounded like a nightmare for 5 or so day. Imagine the smell with all the power problems, food, bathroom issues, and seems hoarding took place which kept some for getting food. I could see why one would not go back again after that experience.

I'm not really that interested in cruises...

...trapped as a captive audience...
...constantly peddled to...
...ships not registered in (nor subject to the laws of) the US because other nations have more friendly terms for them, not you...
...when bad things happen, they're BAD...

No thank you.

Cruising is my favorite vacation. Would I be of the same mind if I'd been stuck on a powerless ship for 5 days? Probably. Could I get my wife and kids back on another ship? No.

I'm sure it wasn't much fun on the ship, but I doubt it was nearly as sensational as the news will make it.

Stuff happens. To me it's like not flying because if crashes = death.

Have you ever been to Kentucky? I would rather be stuck on a cruise ship.

or the Ole Miss/USM game I went to back in 82 where we were treated to a shower of glass beer bottles all game long from the Ole Miss section. One woman behind me had to be taken to the first aid station because a bottle broke up and cut her severely. She missed the rest of the game and had to have stitches.

I actually was on that boat a couple years ago. Nothing went wrong then, and I had a good time.

It not like you are flying Aeroflot or Air Chad.

Have always wanted to go on a cruise. But the capsize of the Costa Concordia and now the Carnival Triumph gives me a little pause and think about it.

I thought I would hate it, but I actually had a great time. Been on 3. Stay away from the shorter ones (3-4 days). They attract a much different crowd from the 7 night ones.

If I go it would be on a 6-8 day cruise. Ive heard that the 3-4 night cruise attracts the drinking, party crowd. I would be looking for just a casual cruise. One where there was no formal nights. And would like to do the Wester Caribbean.

RE: OT: Cruise ship...
I've been on three, two long and one short. We never encountered any problems except for the one where we couldn't dock in Honduras because of the civil strife they were havng at the time and that same one where we couldn't dock in Belize because of the weather. But...
I'd rather go on an All-Inclusive Vacation to some Caribbean Island which we've done about three times. Now, those I really like. Everything is included including free booze and three meals and a midnight snack with entertainment every night. They are a BLAST. I want to go to Puerto Rico next.

Puerto Rico is a lot of fun. I went to PR for the PR Tip-off in 2008. Lots of fun.

The last cruise I was on lasted 8 damn months, thanks to my travel agent the US Navy. Let's just say when I got home, my wife was in for the best 10 seconds of sex in her life!
