RE: Students Petitioning SGA for Vote on Football
I said nothing of the sort in that last post.

But did the boards take off from nothing when I began to post?

Absolutely.

And it kills you to admit that, and that's why you're Rod Spin.

By the way, way to slight the work I have done. You'd think "Loyal ETSU fan" would support someone like that, but I can't make sense out of most of your logic.

In that LAST post.. how many times have you claimed You created this board? Dozens? so yeah maybe not in that LAST post but that is your view of yourself, the creator of this board and all others related to ETSU the most important poster. Do you deny that?

Face it, you need this board alot more then it needs you. It is the only place you have left to write your articles.
Bluster, deny, attack me, make up stuff so you can attack that to divert, all your usual little tricks.
Everyone knows the truth, you are a "journalist" whose only outlet now is this forum. I agree that sucks,
I would be pissed to. lmao

RE: Students Petitioning SGA for Vote on Football
I did create the boards more than 10 years ago, and if you look at how this one jumped when I came over here from SoCon Hoops that's the truth as well.

They didn't come over here for you, Mr. Spin. That's for damn sure. There is nothing you write but cliched fanspeak and twisting of facts, usually with a personal insult or two directed at me because of your inability to handle a difference of opinion.

But it's all good. Because I really don't care what you think, and we all know you BEGGED for me to come back with that Pittsburgh Pirates post of last summer.

Fan 1: That's an interesting little news piece, and supports everything I have heard & polled myself. The reporter did his "own" poll and it was 64-36 for. And I know the board got all over art majors (I'm not sure the root of that, but I AM sure it's ridiculous), but isn't this student out of Education? Is it possible she is talking to Dr. Anti-Football in the College of Ed?

For the record, I'm 100% behind a performing arts center because the campus sorely needs it. Football & performing arts can co-exist just fine.

And can you put Rod & Mr. ETSU board himself on the Buc Off board?

Diversity, the campus needs more diversity --- performing arts center, football team, another women's sports team, a marching band, football cheerleaders, football trainers, etc., new football stadium, new basketball arena, and all the accompanying support that these things generate.

You're sooooo far off base it's not even funny.

Go ahead and believe it. I am through bickering with you. Frankly, if it makes you feel better to lie about me on this board, go right ahead. I'll survive, and nobody will believe it.

Going to write three stories for two different papers now.

This after broadcasting a couple of ballgames.

Tootleloo.

By the way guys. I'm sorry Rod Spin felt the need to once again hijack this board with personal insults to me that fly in the face of facts.

Let's go back to the original discussion and ignore that petty little man, shall we?

THIS THIS THIS! Seriously, I firmly believe those 6-8 weekends in the fall should be used as campus wide showcases. Showcases for alums, community members and students. Instead of just a tailgate/game, there should be TONS of additional activities going on pregame the day of, pregame the day before and postgame the day after.
There's no reason whatsoever that different bluegrass ensembles aren't performing live in a gameday village, art exhibits open to the public, Fossil Site findings available for viewing, plays, recitals and perhaps even medical symposiums. Basically, every piece of the new PAC, parts of the Culp, the museum, all of it, in use on gameday.
Art students don't like they idea of football? Maybe they'd like the idea of doing ALL of the artwork in a pressbox/suite area, along with the artwork for a fieldhouse/letterman's club. Not to mention gameday program art, sellable prints of legend players, gameday scenes, etc...
Showcase, showcase, showcase.

dude, im liking the way youre thinking! add to all that, railroad museum is open saturday mornings and the world-renowned etsu bluegrass band could play somewhere on campus as well. i ll go out on a limb and predict that an on-campus football game would be the best thing to ever happen to soccer attendance, providing etsu doesnt schedule them to play at the exact same time. if 15,000 folk desend onto etsu on a saturday for a 7:00 fball game, wouldnt it figure that maybe at least 1/10 would go to a 4:00 soccer game too? im sure coach calabrese would be thrilled with an additional 1,500 buc fans milling around his field

RE: Students Petitioning SGA for Vote on Football
Now I wouldn't do soccer on the same day. It's overload and families can't commit to that much time with kids out there.
But, if they're smart, they'll tie in ticket purchases. Example: Let's say it's ETSU/UT-C weekend. Soccer is playing someone, doesn't really matter. Set a price point that basically if you buy the football ticket you get the soccer ticket "free." We all know it's not really free, and let's say you get an extra 400 people to do it just for starters. Make said soccer game the following Sunday, and while that goes up against the NFL, most parents will take their kids to see live sporting events just to get them out of the house and wear them down more.
Do the same deal with women's basketball.
But above all else, if it's something at ETSU that people need to see, it needs to be open for people to see.
I had a guidance counselor at a high school in Williamson County tell me about three weeks ago that ETSU was: "The best kept secret in Tennessee." He BEGGED his daughter to go there, and she almost did but chose Tennessee Tech because she wants to work in orthopaedics and Tennessee Tech has football. Those were his words.

I think the guidance counselor from Williamson County is correct. May his tribe increase. We need more students from Tennessee's larger metro areas to consider ETSU. I have a friend, a New York City native, who lives in Greensboro, N.C., and she expressed some surprise that many of her teenage son's upper middle class friends are choosing App-a-lay-chun State.

ETSU has the undergraduate and graduate degrees in place to attract a wider applicant pool. I believe that Brian Noland is asking, why not use athletics as one tool for advertising the school in order to grow and strengthen its academics?
