Memphis owns USM in basketball..
Well USM owns Memphis in football..
Well we beat you to a pulp this year..
Well we normally beat you to a pulp every year..
Yea well you went 0-12..
Yea well combine our records over the last 4 years we got more wins..
Yea but what about tiddly winks?
That's a woman's sport, we got you in the potato sack races.

I mean come on, it's the same old song an dance.. Can't we bash something else until September?

Louisville is always a good target.

Ole Miss always fun and it's easy.

Scott Field in Starkville, while good looking from a distance is about as advanced as Fred and Wilma running a stadium.

and there's always those silly people in hog hats in Fayetteville.

.....or some can continue to bash each other.

Yep, we suck, and yet over the past 25 years we've managed to beat

Alabama
Tennessee
Arkansas (x3)
Mississippi (x5)
Mississippi St
Florida
Southern Cal
Vandy
South Carolina
Missouri

Not bad for a 'joke' of a program...

Pretty impressive list....until you take a closer look. I mean does beating a 3-8 Southern Cal team mean anything? A 5-6 Missouri team? A 1-10 or a 4-5 MS State team? A 3-8 or 1-10 Vandy team? A 4-7 (twice) or 3-8 Ole Miss team?

Not to mention only two of the wins you list came during this decade or last decade, both against Ole Miss.

I've already mentioned crack and Tommy West... if we don't win an actual game soon, I'm gonna run out of ammo.

It's not a matter of USM being snubbed.

As far as I know, the only home and home that Memphis had in basketball this year was Louisville, Xavier, and Tennessee. One of those has been replaced by Ole Miss. Louisville will be replaced because we'll play them in conference. Don't know if Xavier is being renewed. That leaves 2 available. If UTK pressures Pastner enough to continue that series, that leaves 1 open home and home, assuming Xavier doesn't renew. If Xavier does renew that leaves 0.

USM and UAB think they are being snubbed. But as I said up thread it's a matter of scheduling and FedEx lease requirements. There are just few if any open slots.

...who is arguing that point?

Perhaps you haven't argued that, but I have read other threads, particularly from UAB fans, that diss Memphis for not wanting to continue the bball series because of some perceived bball snobbery on Memphis' part because Memphis is going to the nBE. Maybe that's not the case with USM fans.

But as I said, the fact is that scheduling problems make that really difficult.

Memphis and USM go way back. In football, you are our longest rivalry dating back some 63 games over 80 something years. Ole Miss is our second with 59 games since 1921.

In basketball, Memphis and USM have played 89 times, the longest rivalry for the Tigers. The second is Louisville with 87 games.

I for one, would like to see it continue. Memphis fans aren't exactly thrilled with starting off the bball year with buy games with Austin Peay and UT-Martin at FedEx. I would rather see USM or UAB. At some point, big-time, corporate, college sports has become like the Big Box retailers killing off the local mom and pop's and destroying the community.

If i didn't know better I might suspect you of being a old mrs fan.

We have basically purged everyone involved in that debacle. We are really trying not to own it, and that's to our credit. Y'all talk about money... have you ever spent any buying out a crap coach's contract?

I have no big problem with Memphis, but I don't think we should schedule you in anything until we're out of CUSA. If you want the milk, buy the cow.

Buying out crap coaches' contracts is the one thing we seem to do really well as an athletic department in regards to football. We were paying three head coaches last season.

Times change....no way I am okay with us as a buy game....just have to say okay and wish you guys the best. I can do it in FB for one and only for a couple of years tops...no way in hoops.

At some point, you have to say enough is enough.

I have no hatred against Southern.

As for owning us in football that must be some candy-ass video game term because all you currently own is a 0-12 record and 42-24 beatdown. I was there. It was ugly.

btw...I am almost 48....i was hitting the bong and playing EA hockey (easily the best person to person game ever played) before you were born...ooopss we were really kicking your arse then

Change your name to STINK-HEAD since it's obvious where you insert it.

well actually you are talking without basing it on fact. You do realize that USM has beaten Memphis 3 of the last 4 years and even with a miserable 0-12 season, Southern Miss is far better in football over the last 17 years than Memphis. Memphis has the best basketball program and is a basketball school so the money will go to basketball over football there while at USM our monies will go to football over basketball. The fact is that football produces more money for schools than basketball even though basketball is a good money producer, it is not on the level of football. If a school gets enough revenue then they can put the extra funds toward their 2nd sport (USM basketball, although baseball might really be 2nd, Memphis 2nd sport would be football) more often. It is simply a fact of life that you put the money where your priorities lie.

You know, that highbrow comedy just doesn't resonate with a lot of the people here. Save it for the Utne Reader.
