RE: BOT meeting at UAB today & tomorrow
What gets me is that getting the land is a good idea whether they are ever going to approve the stadium or not. UAB is about to grow significantly in undergraduate population, at the behest of the new Chancellor. If UAB doesn't build the stadium, they will still need more space and they should buy up every square foot of land that they can. And, the story makes it out as if the land hadn't been reappraised since the baseball stadium was announced. With all the new development going on around that area, I'm sure the value has increased since the last appraisal.

I don't believe the board wants anyone looking over their shoulder right now.

The Board would have to approve condemning the land, UAB can't do that on their own. At any rate, the board isn't scared of anyone looking over their shoulder. They have carte blanche to do whatever they want. Who exactly in the good ol' boys club of Alabama government do you think is going to do anything about it? Short of catching Finis or Paul Bryant Jr. diddling little boys, they can get away with anything they want.

This 1000%. UAB handled this exactly how they have handled every other land purchase in the history of its existence. They negotiated all the complicated land swaps and purchases and sales with the City and private owners for the baseball stadium without any issue. This is entirely just a shot across the bow to let the administration know that they are still not off the hook.

The ones that would have held it up approved it in committee. If it gets through committee it will pass. It wouldn't have even made it to the committee in the first place if the Chancellor's office hadn't approved of it, so this whole thing is just a stunt.

Yep it will pass. It was a shot across the bow of the new president. That's all it was. They actually are doing more for our cause every time they act like this.

It should also be noted that items are submitted to the agenda about a month in advance, so the only way yesterday would have been the first time they heard about it is by their own fault.

Focus on the positives, not the negatives. It's a great day to be a #UAB Blazer.

Purely coincidental, I'm sure.

It's pretty sad that UAB has to trick the Board and use smoke and mirror tactics to get anything done. Only reason the Board wants us to tell them all the details at every stop is so they can micromanage and stop the progress dead in its tracks before it becomes public knowledge.

If approved today does the Hardy Corp. transaction reduce the future price tag of the stadium?

Mobile Shipping guy with UA-T undergrad to be appointed to replace retiring Angus Cooper III.

No Roman numerals after his name, and he was nominated by John McMahon, so there's that.

Harris Vaughan Morrissette.

Just another UAT grad on a board full of UAT grads. Corruption prevails on the UA BOT.

UAB grad Marietta Urguhart is going to get another term. Is this a bad thing?

At the risk of endangering her (One of Finis's watchdogs reading this), yes, it's a good thing. We do have some allies on the board. Just not enough of them.

Hooverblazer and AttallaBlaze, thanks. I wasn't sure. I just don't trust a system that is so corrupt that they keep nominating their UAT friends for positions on the board.

I'd take a wait-and-see on Morrissette.

That McMahon nominated him might be a very good thing.

Hey, Fess.

You're a blithering ninny.

That is all. Carry on.
