Wow, that's an awfully drastic difference, isn't it? Are those number accurate?
The numbers look accurate to me. Toledo always has the most offers and lately has had the highest rated classes. Their "blanket offering" has resulted in picking up 1 or 2 4* kids. Being the first to offer provides some good karma also. NIU is always one of the schools that has the smallest # of offers. This year would have been a prime year to increase our early offers because of our great publicity. I am an advocate of at least a middle of the road amount of offers (50-70}.

I'll take less offers to the proper talent. I think with so many offers you truly aren't evaluating talent properly. It also says he we really like you, we don't see you as 1 in 130 in our class, you're 1 of 2 who really want to be Huskies. I'm okay with what they've done so far. We've been to three straight MACC games and 4 more than Toledo in the past decade.

It would be interesting to me to see of the offers sent out to 3 or 4 star players, how many of them actually committ, and then ever even play a down for these teams. It's not a question of just getting the committment, but keeping their grades up, staying out of trouble, etc. so they can see the field.

I think it's been pretty clear that we don't offer just anyone to be a "Huskie". Not everyone wants to do it "The Hard Way".
How special is an offer from Toledo or UMass with those numbers?

I wouldn't rely on those numbers 100%. The only reason I say that is because CMU, Toledo, WMU (myself and 2 others), and Kent State (kind of) have their own writers and analysts tracking scholarship offers very closely. The other remaining schools do not.
Schools like EMU, Miami, NIU, etc. could very well have 50+ or more scholarships out there but nobody with Rivals is necessarily tracking them on the Rivals database. When we talk to kids with WMU offers, we always ask what other offers they have. And if they tell us, we will add it to their list. Other than that, there is really no other person out there tracking it.
Now I write for BroncoBlitz.com so I try to lean towards the company line, but there are certain MAC schools where you might actually be better off following 247 or Scout depending on the region, full-time/professional scouts in the area, etc. Since NIU doesn't have a designated person following their recruits, it's pretty much a crapshoot between Scout and Rivals IMO. I would lean towards Rivals though for NIU info simply because of the great job EdgyTim does with Chicago area coverage.

From EdgyTim chalk another one up for P.J. It's been very quiet on our front again for some reason. I'm waiting for the day when EdgyTim gives us credit like this for getting a highly rated local kid on board.
And another: Fenwick junior running back Robert Spillane also knew right away Saturday that he was ready to orally commit to Western Michigan moments after new coach P.J. Fleck offered Spillane a scholarship.
Edgy Tim
"P.J. Fleck just blew me away on Saturday," Spillane said. "I was so impressed with Coach Fleck, his message, his philosophy and his plans for turning the WMU program around. I just felt like this was the perfect scenario for me at Western Michigan, so I committed."
Spillane, who was projected as a linebacker, also was offered by the Broncos as a running back.

Yes, I know Perez was one for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if he was Martel's as well.

I'm pretty sure Moore and Johnson were all Kill because he knew a coach down there. Ashford was Fleck.

I knew that Kill's connection was how they met Moore and Anthony Johnson, but after that I'd go with Fleck on the rest of the sale due to their position, his experience at NIU and he was doing most of the recruiting at that time, but I do agree it could have been Kill.

A good number of potential recruits were present, including Kaneland quarterback Drew David and Sycamore wide receiver Ben Niemann. Niemann is the son of defensive coordinator Jay Niemann, and he committed to NIU back in the fall.

I don't know much about this Kaneland kid, but let's hope PJ doesn't go back to his old stomping grounds and outrecruit us.

Not surprising, but just meant that PJ being a Kaneland kid and this kid being a Kaneland kid, sometimes that's a bond that's tough to beat

Wonder if Beebe and PJ have any contact.

More than anything this class will determine a future QB of the Huskies. I'm anxious to know who that will be. Somewhat surprised we haven't offered Sherfield out of Danville yet, he looks to be a prime candidate for us.

It seems like we are only going to offer 1 QB for scholarship this year.
Our current QB offer from Alabama just got classified as a 3* so he will get some increased attention from other teams now.
Actually a ton of our offers got classified as 3*s
