One would hope the replacement student side stands would be built with an eye to later expansion. But if you have a stand with seats that you are going to have to stop using in a year or two, as the article says, replacing those are a priority over expanding capacity.

That article is clueless, by the way... That writer hasn't seen the initial blueprints.

It will be built with support in place already for an upper deck.

To answer about seating, the $20 million is phase one which would get us to roughly 16,900-17,500. Phase two adds endzone complex with suites and offices and would be roughly 22,000. Phase three adds upper deck, gets us to 35,000, I believe.

have you seen the plans? any pictures anywhere, timeframe on when renders will be released? The 3 phase plan sounds just like what we need. 17k now, 22k at FBS transition, and 30-35k as the program realizes its full potential.

I have, but they were VERY rough draft by the architect (more just to get dimensions, etc)

They're working on actual renderings right now, I believe.

And the time for talk is over. Time to "show me" Mo St is serious about FBS.

Think it comes down to MVC basketball vs Sun Belt FBS football. Two years ago, the answer was easily stay the course in the MVC.

Creighton leaving the MVC knocked that league down a bit.

If Wichita State ends up leaving, Mo St becomes the outlier in a league suddenly missing its two premier programs. Suddenly, staying in the MVC is higher risk proposition but with little reward.

I've yet to see the newest plans but construction starts as soon as this season concludes

I still prefer being in a conference with our rival Wichita St(who just made the final four this year) vs joining the sun belt but I care more about the hoops team than the football team. The MVC is still a solid hoops league.

That would put you exactly one year behind us on the FBS transition schedule. You could easily accept an invite to the SBC this coming May with the support of ULL and Ark St.

Nice to see progress on the Missouri State facility.

The MAC should try and add Wichita State, Missouri State, UMass and VCU for basketball. Inflate the league to 16 schools for hoops to increase the conference profile to the Atlantic 10 level.

This will never happen of course but it would be good for the long term future of VCU and WSU to not be left behind in a non-FBS league. TV deal potential is far greater in the MAC over MVC or A10 by virtue of being an FBS league.

What will be the seating capacity for Missouri State once the renovations are completed?

To get Missouri St and UMass to move they are going to need a TV deal from the MAC that exceeds what they would earn from the NCAA basketball tournament in their respective leagues. Both schools could probably accept higher travel costs as part of becoming full FBS conference members.

The MAC could make any new TV deal mostly paying for basketball. Wichita State in that case would be able to make 1 million in the MAC then as a non-FB member. I doubt they would be able to pry VCU away from the A10 though but I'm pretty convinced Wichita State would go for it.

OR

Throw in Delaware and JMU into the MAC East and figure that at 16 schools its going to force a second NCAA bid for the MAC like I have talked about with CUSA. The additional schools after Missouri St may all be from the East to keep UMass happy.

The MAC has restructured its basketball tournament in a way that the Top 2 schools earn byes to the semifinals. The schools that earn the NCAA credits also get to keep the majority of the income.

While it is always exciting and evocative of a lot of pride to see this kind of progress I can't help but kind of shake my head and think, 'poor guys have no idea what is necessary or what will be needed.'

I think the renovations are not going to increase the capacity much more than the current 16-17k, But will enable future expansion to occur swiftly and smoothly if the market shows sufficient interest.

The capacity will be roughly 18,700 when this first phase is complete.

Second phase would be to horse-shoe around the south end of the stadium.

Third phase would be to add an upper deck over this latest addition.

Fourth phase would be to remodel the lower bowl of the west side (older, larger side).

Obviously it's just dreaming now, but I believe they think we could expand all the way to 32,000
