wow guess we better get well from 2012 right now. It looks like our home games aren't going to draw except maybe MTSU and the road games are our toughest competitors historically. Wow~!

RE: 2013 Southern Miss football schedule
Not the schedule I was hoping for but I will take it for several reasons. I was hoping to have the Florida schools split up for one. The C-USA road games combined with the OOC road games are going to really make it a "make or break" season. On the flip side, I like the home portion of our schedule as 3 of the 4 all appear to be winnable at first glance. MTSU will be an interesting home game as MTSU's DC (Tyrone Nix) is a former USM player and coach who some thought "might" get the USM head job the last 2 years. Another thing I hate is the fact that with all of our OOC games starting off the season, we have a good chance of having 3 or more losses before September is over which would kill attendance for the rest of the season. On the flip side, if we can upset 1 or 2 of our OOC road games the season could be a huge success to where we don't have to play 3 OOC road games again.

no offense to any of our home game opponents, but this schedule will not help build crowds at the rock. If La. Tech, Marshall, or ECU been at the rock it would have helped, but unless we pull off some big road wins we won't draw at the rock.

Yeah, and I woudlnt expect any travelling fans from any of us with the exception of MTSU as they are pretty close. In FAU and FIU case we are too new of a program to travel well.

You guys got the shaft on that one. Im kind of surprised that your AD or Coach signed off on it

maybe C-USA is trying to tell USM something, like, if you get invited elsewhere - GO!!!!! I guess we are not as well thought of by the conference as we thought.

How do the idiot schedulers not split the FL teams home and away. Same thing with Marshall traveling to both FL schools in the same year. We need to fire Banowsky and offer Thompson the job. When TCU left the MWC they made them travel back to Boise a second year in a row and told them to suck it.

I've been trying to point this out. The pervasive feeling among USM fans seem to be that we'll resume winning right away, and the crowds will follow. I'm looking at that schedule and thinking it's utter crap, and that we still can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Not one of our home games is against a team that was D-1A when we joined CUSA. That says something in my opinion.

It's too bad our AD is too busy impersonating an accountant to notice.

Our new scheduling philosphy is "Show me the Money" Our only decent home game in the forseeable future is BYU which we are openly shopping.

It's disappointing that Tulsa and Southern Mississippi aren't playing this year. Under the normal rotation we would have. Those games are always very intense battles.

This schedule really isn't going to do much to excite the home crowd and to pour salt into the wound, our best rivals that we play, we get them on the road. I think this really really sucks.

Well, if your home opponents suck that bad they should be easy wins.

RE: 2013 Southern Miss football schedule
Maybe C-USA is punishing us for moving the Nebraska game to Lincoln similar to how MLB is punishing the Marlins by not giving them the All Star game since they gave away their team??

On another note I guess this means our schedule for 2014 (assuming nothing new develops) will be:

Home - Marshall, La Tech, UAB, Old Dominion
Road - FIU, FAU, UNT, MTSU

OOC - at BYU, at Mississippi St, and 2 games to be determined

RE: 2013 Southern Miss football schedule
This is just a result of the fact that USM played both Eastern departees on the road last season, so they get their replacements on the road.
Now, available dates could be a problem, but it would be fairly easy to fix.
USM - switch to @ FAU and host ECU
FAU - switch to @ Tulane and host USM
Tulane - switch to @ ECU and host FAU
ECU- switch to @ USM and host Tulane

Both work out better for USM and FAU; Tulane and ECU wants shouldn't be relevant in the scheduling. Still the current schedule does work out pretty well for Tulane. 2 home games against ECU in a row. A road trip to a hotbed of TUlane alumni, Boca Raton. Sending us to Ruston for a year was a given - fair enough. No game against USM is no surprise: C-USA and Banowsky have never valued that series so why start now.

wish that was true, although I suspect with the exception of MTSU the others are games we should have little problem with after playing Nebraska, Arkansas, and Boise State for warm ups.

People will still show up if we win. It's just embarrassing to be rolling around in the gutter with teams whose mascots people won't even know. When I was in college, we were playing teams like Virginia Tech at home.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for people who are still attached to CUSA. Keep talking like that, and this can be every year!

Why would CUSA care about the Nebraska game?

I think CUSA is just being CUSA. There aren't any prominent teams left to send us. I like Rice, but when you're hoping to get a home game with Rice, you're in the wrong freaking conference.

RE: 2013 Southern Miss football schedule
Andre, I think with EJ gone, most of the fans will be in full force for the Texas State game.. I know it's not one to get all excited about, but..... Opening game at the Rock with a new coach that has fire in his eyes, I think we'll have a good turn out.. Then the next 3 we probably won't travel well to, but if we win 1 or 2 of those, the next game at the Rock will be a fun atmosphere, as long as the boys are having fun and we don't look like a repeat of 2012.
