our fans are mainly interested in the mac, I have no idea what our admin is thinking but signs are pointing to the fact that they're "talking with people".
we did hear from a VT beat writer for the DNR (he's a former JMU beat writer fwiw), that "from what he can gather from his interaction with the admin, they seem to want a power conference or nothing".I hope that mentality is more reflective of the previous president and that quote is months old now.
Everyone seems to be waiting for the big east to settle down and pick their teams, and then all other conferences react from there. No one wants to realize, "crap we added this fcs team to the field when we really didn't need to". Meanwhile, if the SBC doesn't act fast, they're going to be dead by the next round of realignment soon.
And that to me is exactly why we don't need them. No more revolving door candidates. If UMass leaves 12 works just fine. If UMass stays then add Delaware or another orphan FBS if one exists, cement the lineup with a decent size buyout and call it a day.
Agree. Any buyout should be considerable. The MAC shouldn't be a revolving door.

My SIL's parents went to Kent St, and her mom has been a long time JMU employee. Don't know what her official title is, but she doesn't have an advanced degree...she's the person who gets things done.
Given that, I suspect JMU to the MAC will happen!

the most concrete evidence i've seen so far!
After we heard that quote from the beat reporter about how they wanted a power conference or bust, which we suspect was the viewpoint of the former president, we all generally said "are you kidding me? I hope they're not that stupid or else there really is no hope".
Technically, what's stopping Delaware (with their better market proximity and state flagship name) from going to another conference one day after you add them? What's stopping any western team you may add from getting as hot as Boise State and suddenly the Big 10 or Big 12 are talking to them?
Really, anything can happen. I wouldn't worry about teams potentially leaving one day 10+ years from now. That's what exit fees are for. Cash the check and move on.

In the East you have the Big East, ACC, and to some extent CUSA, all looking to swipe any good teams. Teams to the west or especially Midwest, there's really noboby except the Big 12 or Big 10, and anybody that's in the MAC isn't going directly to the Big 12 or Big 10.

I think if a conference wants a team bad enough, they'll take a team directly from the MAC. NIU's name has been thrown around on message boards lately, but I haven't seen anything from the press or more legitimate sources.
Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean it will never happen.

RE: The Mac trying to lure Delaware?....
Our AD not very long ago said that we had not been approached by any other conferences about switching (not that that proves anything necessarily). And we don't have the stadium or attendance for a power conference. We're not going anywhere.

The MAC IS a power conference
Seven bowl bids. One BCS bid
B1G is a power conference.
Seven bowl bids. One BCS bid.
Both, I believe, had the same bowl records also.
