BYU
If BYU goes MWC we need to try and land fb only there.
MWC adds BYU (potentiall), Boise, SDSU (most likely) and Aresco adds Tulane, Tulsa, etc. PASS!
Who do you want to see at The Nip: Boise, BYU or UCF, SMU etc?
Park bball with C7
Hope for ACC invite later

For a fanbase that, in general, cares more about the opponent quality than the team itself, I don't see how we CAN'T go ahead with the split conference thing. I know there are other factors though.

RE: BYU
I dont like the idea of sticking with the C7 for non football sports. The two best basketball programs left you could argue are UC and UCONN. The conference just isn't that good even for basketball. All you have are 2-3 quality programs left and that is it. A UC, UConn, Temple, Memphis, USF as a basketball conference is just as good as the C7.
I think right now if your hope is for an ACC invite is to stand pat and stick with the Big East. If it becomes apparent it will never happen then maybe give the MWC consideration at some point down the road for football.

We do care a lot about the opponent...true
But put ohio state in the new big east and i bet their fans would have similar complaints/concerns.

RE: BYU
What would alligning with the MWC for football do to recruiting? I don't see many players from the West of the Rocky Mountains wanting to come to UC to play. Most of the players I see interested in UC come from the Southeast and Midwest/Mideast areas. Most of the coaches we now have appear to have connections to the same areas. A move to the MWC while bringing in some pretty good football teams may have a negative affect on recruiting. That could hurt our football program more than a couple of years playing what some say is not the best schedule.

I agree completely. That is why I'd stand pat. UC recruits primarily in the Southeast (Florida especially). It is much better for them to have USF/UCF and other southern schools in the league as opposed to a bunch of Western schools.

I agree with sticking with the Big East (or whatever it will be called) for now.

Using your numbers and adding Tulsa's football average Sagarin Rating over the last 5 years of 54.6 and 81.8 for b- ball changes the new B-East conference rating over that same period to 97.2 for B- Ball and 76.23 for football.
The average Sagarin rating for the New B- East conference would be better than the new MWC in football and worse than the Catholic 7 with UC included. However the rating of approximately 70 for the Catholic 7 with UC's 39.2 ( which includes some pretty bleak years for UC) is approxiamtely 70 compared to 97 for the New B-East.
Considering the possible harm to recruiting and increased travel expenses, I think it would be a better decision to stay with the New Big East than to split football to the MWC. Football would actually be more competitive but B- ball woudl suffer a little. Hopefully it will only be for a short time and then UC will find themselves back in the best basketblall conference in the land which will be the new ACC which will look more like the old Big East than the old ACC.

I agree 100%. Now lets finally see what Aresco can get us on the TV deal.
4 games in the Mountain or Pacific time zone isn't optimal is any sense, even more so with the bad TV deal they have out there.

His comments appear that the TV deal will now be the #1 priority. He needs some type of stability in order to do that. Kind of like trying to sell a car that keeps changing its body style during the selling process right now for the TV deal.
