Probably as talented as Memphis. But I can't remember seeing a team so interested in running it's mouth and taunting it's opponent. If they actually focused on playing basketball they would be very difficult to beat.

I would 100% agree with you. After the Pittman garbage last night and see him mouth off at Herrion and the staff, then seeing the resulting run that UTEP took on (and I totally believe the Pittman arguing and whining was a direct cause of that UTEP run), I stopped watching.
I'm getting really tired of this team acting like a bunch of middle schoolers. It bums me out for Tinnon, who seems like the only high-level player we have that keeps his **** together.

RE: Marshall basketball
It appears to me, the team personifies its coach. Herrion did nothing but jaw the officials every trip down the court. He was unhappy with calls against his team, calls for his team, and with no calls. He was throwing tantrums similar to that of a four-year old child, stomping his feet; throwing his arms in the air; red faced and slobbering. If he'd had a bedroom to run to, I'm certain we would have heard a door slam and an, "I hate you!" emit from behind. As a result, I believe it caused the refs to become extremely whistle-happy in the second half. They even called a double foul (block-charge), which I had never seen in all my years. It was rather annoying.

I pretty much fully agree with you. I don't speak for all Marshall fans, but I'm getting real tired of Herrion's mid-game ****. It's asinine and unnecessary.

The trash talking started in the tunnel before the game. They were playing the UTEP intro and then the team didn't come out because the UTEP coaches got them away from the trash talking by Marshall and it delayed our entrance. Coach Johnson also mentioned on the post game show. He was talking about how Marshall tries to intemidate teams with the trash talk, their size and by being really physical. That explains why all of Cedric Lang's fouls were very hard and physical. UTEP has learned how to be physical with teams and last night they showed it by out rebounding on the best rebounding teams in CUSA. Marshall was a tough match up for UTEP and the Miner's took them to them out easily. This UTEP team could finish league play with only 2 losses.

We probably should have won the game by 25+ but we went to our second team with about 10 minutes left. While I understand that guys like Twymond Howard need minutes, I thought we took our foot off the gas way too early last night. We did the same against Nebraska.

Well, that will help down the road somewhere. Those guys will be called upon at some point. As long as we get the W while giving them some PT I'm ok with it.

They called a block AND a charge? On the same play? I thought it was one or the other.

That was the way I saw it. And I was as perplexed as anyone. Our guy drove the lane, someone stepped up to try to take the charge, and it ended up in a double foul. Did anyone see something different?

For sure the Miners weren't intimidated. Lang was a beast out there as he took his disgust on the Marshall players. He kept checking his mouth with his hand he probably took an elbow or something and p'sed him off. He looked mad out there. I'm just glad the Miners were able to maintain their composure and didn't retaliate. It was a very physical game though.

Stan while I agree we are looking good, the road is still an adventure for this team. Trips to Tulsa and ECU won't be easy. Southern Miss on the road is going to be very, very tough.... Actually every single road game worries me.

A lot of Marshall fans are done with Herrion and I agree 100% that the lack of professionalism on the team is a direct reflection of the coach. We have a ton of talent but we are undisiplined and horribly coached.

Don't get mad at us Herd - we may have hired Donnie but no one made you hire that idiot. An embarrassment to any DI program.

Could there have been a technical foul on one of the players? I know Marshall had one in the second half.

When he was leading us to back to back 20 win seasons and the NIT it's all good in the hood. Now after a start that has included injuries, loss of players, and several other factors, now people are calling for him to be fired. That wears me out far more than anything else.

Hamrick's gift. Hammy firing Joe Dooley and hiring Bill Herrion was the worst mistake in the history of any of our sports. Dooley had future national POY David West commited. Our Herrion was horrible.

Sounds like Herd fans are much like Miner fans..... Both want hard-working, nose-to-the-grind, and disciplined ambassadors, than just a talented team that cannot represent the university's values.
But their coach seems to have brought some nice talent too. A tough balancing act. I like Marshall, and hope it works out for you all.

Let's be honest, ATO. The team that went to the NIT last year was Kane, Pitts, Johnson, Spikes and Tinnon with Pena playing the 6th man. That's 5 Jones guys and one Herrion guy. The team fell apart in conference play last year and made the NIT thanks to a nice little run in the CUSA tourney, but Herrion is 17-16 in his last 33 regular season games. The team he has put together (now that Kane and Spikes are the only two Jones guys) has no chemistry, no balance (too many "athletic" i.e. can't handle the ball, can't shoot, 3 types), and a bunch of bigs with no real offensive or defensive skill set.
The man has been a head coach for 7 years and has never had a team that has won as many, or more, games than it did the previous year (i.e. he wins less games every year he stays at a school). Oh, and I didn't like him last year either. All he does is whine and make an azz of himself and his players reflect that same image.

Exactly runvsfd miner. We herd fans, for the most part, care more about just w's and l's. They ARE representing our university, whether they know it/care or not. And this crap ain't getting it done. Nor was it last yr., despite better results. You can win the right way. Others do it every season. And so shall we. Herrion's allowed behavior that's not exceptable imho, and the results are mirroring this lack of discipline/sportsmanship. Win or lose, do it w/ class. Something our coach doesn't seem to get. He can't get out of here soon enough for me and many other herd fans.
