I don't dispute Ohio has had a easy schedule. But those three compare to three off Ohio's schedule. You're win over Middle TN St is really lifting that RPI. I didn't notice NIU was Akron's first true road win of the year as WMU was for Ohio. I'm excited to see these teams play.

Akron
Penn State RPI 170 (Neutral Court)
Cleveland State 133
Princeton 138
Avg RPI 147

Ohio
Richmond RPI 98
Oakland 148
St. Bonaventure 184
Avg RPI 143

9/14 of Ohio's OOC games were against non mid majors (3 A10, 2 CUSA and 1 BigXII) or against mid majors with 20+ wins the season before. I would disagree with the statement that they played too many cupcakes and not enough mid level teams.

Hard to imagine anyone being excited about NIU VS WMU.

FYI, their SOS is ranked 243rd, last in the MAC.

a10 and CUSA aren't mid majors? Interesting.

You could argue the A10 and MWC are somewhere between high major and mid major. Loaded conferences. But CUSA will look like crap once Memphis leaves. They are a mid major conference with one great program.

correct. according to most sports journalists who use the term.

just because a team has a bad year it doesn't mean they are a cupcake program.

I never called OU a 'cupcake program.' You said you "would disagree with the statement that they played too many cupcakes," and I provided a fact that OU IS playing a cupcake schedule this year.

I was referring to OU's opponents, not OU. There's a difference between a cupcake, and a team having a bad year. When Ohio beat North Carolina in 2002 the Tarheels finished the season 7-19. That doesn't make them a cupcake.

6 non mid-majors and 3 teams with 20+ wins last year is not a cupcake schedule, regardless of their current records.

How about "crappy teams this year" instead of "cupcake"? Maybe it was hoped the schedule would be stronger than it turned out to be, but 243-SOS is a very weak schedule no matter what names you attach to the opponents.

No doubt about the weak SOS this year. Even more disappointing was our performance against that schedule.

But building a decent schedule can be a crap shoot. Attempting to secure more home games, as the MAC would like, can present a limited number of teams available that are willing to travel to you. Hindsight is always 20/20, and what may look decent on paper prior to the season can easily look bad when all is said and done.

Agreed. On paper the schedule looked pretty good. St. Bonaventure was an NCAA tournament team last year and was expected to be good again. Richmond was supposed to be better than they are. Marshall was supposed to be better than they are. All that aside Ohio and Akron's performance within their schedules is almost identical.
