This has less and less to do with NIU Athletics the more details you mention.
You have to realize that NIU athletics is its own completely separate part of NIU. Its a big bureaucracy. NIU college of children development (or whatever it is called) is not going to run a program at a loss so that NIU athletics can maybe sell a few more tickets or even season tickets.
It does require co-operation between two entirely different departments, that do not have a history of working together.
Education Department would benefit with the free and excellent marketing. I.T. would need to co-operate as well.
In addition NIU athletics would also be in the picture.
NIU can facilitate this by making it past of a students work for money or
training. This would need the President or some high-up official of NIU to get involved to make it work
You know what, the IDEA of this is not bad its just the amount of cooperation/communication needed to make this happen are sort of unrealistic when it comes to NIUs history of the education side working with the athletic side.
I am not sure how the child care services works now so I don't know if they are open to the public or just to students with children. It just seems like there are easier things that can be done to improve the game day experience which would take less work than this.
Any ideas that will improve attendance should be encouraged.
More group activities from as many organizations will help.
The more local groups the better.
Once you build up a local fan base attendance will increase.
Improving concessions might help in this regard.
Targeting local companies and selling blocks of seats to them will help.
Company outings tend to be very reliant on concessions.
A way to keep a large quantity of food fresh in the stadium would be great. People selling it might improve access. Some companies goto a baseball game as a yearly outing. Why not an NIU game?
One-off game attendance boosters like class reunions is another thought. This will require co-operation from the University.
Some jokers on this board seem to love putting down the childcare plan.
I admit that the level of inter-department co-operation makes it a very difficult plan to implement. It will not solve attendance woes but certainly would, if it were possible, showcase NIU's fan dedication level and potentially make it easier for alumni with young children to attend games.
