Well ya. At 12-0 we would still have to win our conference championship game to get the AQ along with being ranked higher than another non-AQ.

Problem is you have to get voted high enough! Nobody will vote y'all that high next year because they will say remember what happened last year!

You mean losing in the Orange bowl by less than the 2 previous Orange Bowl losing teams lost by?

I guess Oklahoma would have been a better opponent, right? Then FSU would have won by more.

Do all you guys have as much brains as teeth?

Of course they looked out of place to you. only famous teams are allowed to lose by that margin in your narrow little world.

Still didn't respond to the *fact* that the margin of defeat was LESS than the previous two Orange Bowls and two of THIS YEAR'S BCS games.

Did Florida not belong, either? How about K-State?

Ever since NIU cracked the BCS, I've realized intelligence is at a premium for most of this country's football fans. My god.

Last I checked you win or lose based on points, not yardage.

To quote from the Rocky movie: "Rematch?....There ain't going to be no rematch". We'll always be 1-0 against them. Our 'Bama troll can go suck on that one.

RE: NIU Poised for another BCS Run
I think being that NIU is primarily Chicago peeps, we forget that much of the country (PARTICULARLY the SOUTH) are mouth breathing townies, same type that turn Football Coaches into Deities.....they have no other professional teams in the towns like Tallahassee so they vest their actual identity into the team. I saw it first hand when I went in on the FSU Seminole being used as a mascot, not that I care but it was fun to point out the use of a race as a mascot as being stupid.... they defended it as if I had assaulted a family member!

That being said, starting out with an overly aggressive strategy could have backfired horribly. The game might have been out of reach after the first or second quarter if we have a turnover or two early. We didn't give our skill players a lot of opportunity to make plays, but there were some, and they didn't make them. Lynch had a rough game and the FSU DL is phenomenal.

Carey was extremely aggressive on special teams but extremely conservative on the offensive side. I would like to have seen more calcuated risks on offense and a consistent philosophy throughout all phases of the game. We all knew we weren't going to be able to run against FSU with our base offense. We knew we had to take what they gave us and not try to take what wasn't there. I would just like to have seen us try to set up the run with more bubble screens and passes to the flat to Akeem and/or Wells. I think that would have calmed Lynch down a bit and given him confidence. What really frustrated me was that the screen played a prominent role in our game-planning according to Rittenberg's inside BCS preparation story, but it played such a minor role during the game itself although we've been a great screen team throughout the season. SIGH....
However, I am confident Carey will grow quickly as a head coach and work his butt off to help us try to get back to the promised land next year.

+1. Completely agree with your assessment.

Guys, Lynch was 14-41 passing in the game. They tried to throw all sorts of stuff in the flats, but he put so much heat on it that nobody could handle the passes. I grew frustrated, too, with the QB powers that went nowhere. But when your QB can't hit the broad side of a barn that night until two hours into the game, you're pretty limited in what you can do offensively.

The coach gets some responsibility for that. The QB had no help from his O-line or a RB not worthy of div 1aa playoffs.
QB still gets over 250 yards and breaks 3000 passing and 1500 rushing benchmark for the first time in NCAA div1a.
Yes our star QB did croak in the 4th Q when he predicted FSU would croak, but credit is due to a much better coached team trained to stop Lynch. Had DD been coach, Lynch would have been more relaxed.
All those hard hits may have impacted his throwing accuracy.
Imagine NIU badly needing a RB??

o-line is fine.. we lack playmakers... next year may suck if everyone just keys on lynch(and he doesn't learn to throw in the offseason)

If you are taking hard hots on your head, your depth perception is impacted.

We need an O-line to protect Lynch.
Cannot have a QB as our top RB.
We need at least one genuine top 25 RB, hopefully two.

I thought the o-line played well.. lynch had time to throw, just couldn't make them..

Our depth at RB collapsed like the ND defense(womble, settles...gone.. then harris hurt)..

Lynch is fine with the deep ball, needs to learn the intermediate routes, ask Martel..

If we can shell out some big bucks to get a young hotshot recruiter assistant, I believe that will be money well spent.

I wasn't on board back then, but it's my understanding that we went into Alabama and pounded the football down their throats. Something to be said for that.
