I completely dismiss this line of reasoning. (No offense, MB, as I've heard countless people make such statements ad nauseum.) One could logically make the reverse argument that Arizona didn't deserve to win because they allowed themselves to fall so far behind in the first place. The point is a basketball game lasts forty minutes, a football game lasts 48 minutes, a baseball game lasts nine innings, etc., and it doesn't matter when the points/runs were scored. It only matters that they were scored. (It's funny how it's a "great comeback" when you're the winner in these type games, but "we blew it" when you're the loser. Lol)

Then we are in agreement that the bad call at the end of the game had no effect on the game, because just like it doesn't matter when the points are scored, it doesn't matter when the bad calls are made either.

I'm of the opinion that the officials should call what actually happened, correctly, no matter when in the game it occurs. The only exception I'd possibly make is the occasional make up call to make amends for a previously blown call.
But yes, I'm an idealist in such things.

"Instant replay" is supposed to eliminate such human failings by letting the official look at a slow motion replay and thereby make a correct call. As we have seen in both basketball and football, slowing down the action that resulted in an incorrect call does NOT automatically mean the right call will always ensue. We still see replays of that end zone catch called by replacement refs and there was one I recall where a missed FG was called "good" even after replay. Human fallibility still appears to occasionally trump technology.

High school football games are 48 minutes. College and NFL are 60.
