RE: Per ESPN: Boise Not Joining Big East
I still stand with
Indy football
CYO7 everything else
I think the CYo7 understands we're not there forever, and will prepare Xavier for when we leave. Until then, we have a damn good basketball prgram that should only strengthen their conference.
For football, schedule with BYU, Uconn, Miami, Louisville + whatever bottom of other major conferences. If we win, we'll get invited much sooner as an indy than as part of some best of the rest conference. I think being able to just be associated with ND as "independent" would be huge, and make our program seem even more relevant and desirable.
Realistically, it's probably CUSA2.0 :(

Cincinnati football as an independent would never survive.

I was looking forward to watching some more games on that Blue Turf. Was the only time UC played there during the Humanitarian Bowl?

Indy likely means no bowl due to no bowl tie ins. UC would have to go undefeated to get a sniff at a mediocre bowl with no bowl tie ins. UC doesn't have the following of BYU or ND to play that game successfully.

Looks guys next year it is,
Cincy
UConn
Ville
Rutgers
USF
UCF
Temple
Houston
SMU
Memphis
If you can get ECU and Tulane to enter early they you can do a CGC.
Lets hope by 2014 we are elsewhere. This independent thing is crazy talk.

Three years in this awful conference, and it won't matter.

Exactly- If we don't make it to another conference after 1-3 years as an independant, we pick whichever conference for all sports that fits us best, whether its CUSA 2.0, MWC etc and stay. These next few years are our best chance at making it to a big 5 conference, and we should do everything we can to make us as attractive as possible.

at least I feel like Dr. Ono and Whit "get it" and "want it" and are doing 100% of what they can do land us in a power 5 conf.

I agree completely. I think they've contacted all the other conferences, know what they need to do, and are actively trying to get to one.
Hopefully we end up somewhere stable, and don't have to deal with this again in 5 years.... until then we just wait until more news leaks haha

Kind of my thought, too. Park basketball with C7. Bust the piggy bank and go all in for football. If need be...Independent you load up on scheduling and you are not sullied by what is going to be an awful football conference. If you don't get an invite by 2016, its not happening anyways. Find a home with a cruddy conference forever and cut back big time.

Can the athletic department as a whole survive economically without TV money coming in from a conference afiliation? If football is independant where does the money come from. Whit said the model is not sustainable.

RE: Per ESPN: Boise Not Joining Big East
If UC were to go independent I could see a scheduling agreement with the MWC where we play 4 opponents a year. That way if UC plays Fresno State, Boise State someone it would be on ESPN which the MWC school gets a bonus for. You throw in BYU and 2 MAC schools and you've got half the schedule. Then schedule Louisville a B1G school like Purdue, Indiana or Illinois. A FCS school can be thrown in there too. It could theoretically look like this in 2014:
1. FCS Opponent
2. BYU
3. Louisville
4. @ Ohio State
5. Miami (OH)
6. Toledo
7. Boise State
8. @ Fresno State
9. 3rd MWC Opponent
10. @ 4th MWC Opponent
11. Second B1G School like Purdue, Illinois
12. "New Big East" school

RE: Per ESPN: Boise Not Joining Big East
I'm all for hoops/olymipc with the C7....this should just happen. At least our bball will still be in a power conference, recruiting east and on espn.
For football...I don't want to be in a conference with Tulane, ECU, SMU, etc. Not knocking those programs but the new Big East looks toooo southern. But for those saying try Indy...why not join MW for football and get the money from the tv deal? If we are going to schedule 4 MWC teams anyway, might as well go all in. Seems more sure and safer than Indy.

Whit is right. It's not sustainable. But you could make it work in a two year all in gamble.

we ought to try it then...if it doesn't work, ie, we don't get the acc invite in that two year time it's not like the big east, or whatever it's going to be called wouldn't take us back....

RE: Per ESPN: Boise Not Joining Big East
What happens if they'd take UC back, but only after they "give in" to certain things given their weak negotiating power as an unsustainable independent football program? I hope the line above makes at least a little bit of sense so you can figure out what I'm getting at.
I think going independent in football for any amount of time would be a sizable gamble.

Huge gamble. Like I said its all in.
Staying in C-USA2 is just as big of a gamble unless the ACC has let them know to hang tight because an invite is coming.

RE: Per ESPN: Boise Not Joining Big East
If UC goes to the C& it is with the understanding that UC is the ONLY team from Cincinnati. XU does not get invited if UC goes with the C7. There is no frickin way I would want UC to have to play XU home and home in two conference games. UC should never go back to Cintas.
