I will go so far as to say I do not think Murry Bartow should lose his job at this time and Brian Noland agrees with me.

I will also add, sadly, if John Wooden was coaching today, he'd be laughed at as a culturally out-of-touch old man by his potential recruits. That's just what basketball has "evolved" into in 2012.

Remember Mister- MULLINS FIRST!

I can't disagree more. Wooden coached a Muslim...Kareem. He respects him to this day. If Kareem sticks with the Wizard, then today's out of touch players would too. Nobody laughs at coach Wooden. His records stand alone as the greatest in sports history. Seven national championships in a row. I'm waiting on the team that tops that! After he won his tenth championship in twelve years...one of the first places he spoke was ETSU. Could he have made more money speaking somewhere else? No doubt...but when the Wizard gives his word, he doesn't change it for more money or anything else. Nothing is worth damaging his integrity. We need more Wooden's. Mr. Bartow is no Wooden.

i would like to go on record as saying thhat Jesus is my favorite savior

ive said in other posts that action speeks louder than 125 meetings and press feeds. until changes are put into motion, i will view noland as some guy that came out of tbr to land a sweet gig. its up to him to prove otherwise to me

yep. mullins goes first. leads to questions. if mullins goes, does murry get 1 year under a new ad with strong leadership and goals in place? would murry be a better coach if he had a better boss? in any event, mulling goes first

Jesus is not only my favorite....He is the only Savior. I don't know what Noland believes...but I suggest he would tell anyone he's just a college president who wants to move ETSU ahead. I'd say so far, so good. I'm more than pleased with his first year. I love his ambition. So far I'd say a home run hire. We won't be able to tell till we look back but his stated priorities are spot on!

RE: To all the Bartow bashers
Okay guys. Way to take something waaaaaaay out of context.

Though I will say that with what I've read about Brian Noland on here, I am half expecting some posters to come on here and claim him to be God.

John Wooden coached Lew Alcindor about 45 years ago, so he could relate to today's basketball atmosphere of gangsta rap, tattoos, 75 percent of the NBA on toking, 30 percent graduation rates, bling-bling and keeping it real?

That's what you're telling me?

By the way, Mister, I know in the past you said you were a sportswriter. I'm curious- for what publication(s)?

May I go on record and say I don't believe in saviors? May I then ask how in the hell did this become a Jesus thread?

(12-26-2012 08:05 PM)PittsburghBucs Wrote:  ETSU, come on. Noland's comments are beyond a "vote of confidence." He's saying he's the future, that he's "great," that he has confidence in the future with Bartow at the helm.

He's saying Bartow's his guy.

What do you say the week after the drug arrests (not the day of) if you are displeased with the coach or you hold him responsible for recruiting thugs?

You don't say anything. Or you say "an evaluation will be done at the end of the season," thus putting Bartow on the hot seat to improve his act.

Another thing. Giving a coach even a mild "vote of confidence" and then firing him within a short period of time is completely unethical. Personally, I have more confidence in most human beings, Brian Noland or otherwise, not to do that.

You want to sweep Noland's comments under the rug because you don't want to believe them, I want to believe a man at his word. Let's face it, Bartow has been internally popular enough that he has the longest tenure of any ETSU men's basketball coach since Madison Brooks retired despite the gaffes I listed above, and for that matter having a complete collapse under his helm after DeChellis' seniors left. It could be argued the only thing that has enabled Bartow to have the success he has is the move to the A-Sun, but he's kept his job for, I believe, the second longest period of time any men's basketball coach at ETSU ever has.

Again, I'm not giving Bartow a vote of confidence, Noland is.

But not all is lost. Perhaps we can take solace that I have yet to read a quote as to what a great job David Mullins has done from Noland. That's big.

Finally, what do you mean the "stupid techniques" I want the media to use on our athletics staff?

Pray tell, what are they?

This should be good.

You mention coach Madison Brooks who was a great person and a coach who was on the list of coaches with the most wins for a long time.. I remember when I first came to Johnson City in the 60's how surprised I was at all the nasty stuff the fans said about coach Brooks. A lot of fans hated him.. stuff was yelled at him during games in the building that was named for him.. In the lobby fans talked about what a terrible coach he was.. One year in the 60's our team got off to a great start and then one of our big guys who was one of our best players was caught stealing and coach Brooks kicked him off the team..and we ended up with not so great a year..he caught a lot of heat that year.. but saved his job with a great run the next couple of years... maybe history will repeat for coach Bartow?????? If the internet had been around back then I don't think coach Brooks would have been around long enough to get a building named after him..

You have to understand something- THAT'S COACHING! Criticism is part of the job.

And so is the fact that I'm so brilliant, I have a stalker.

And the fact our moderator allows it proves Gold and my own point.
