ACC Talking To MSG
Talks renewed...after recent BE collapse. MSG can get out of contract with BE.

ACC doesn't want it every year though...too many arenas to keep happy. We'll see where this leads.

I really wish the ACC would allow Louisville to host the ACC tourney at the Yum!. We would sell it better than anyone else could.

This is going to be the thing that kills it IMO. From my understand, MSG wants a tournament that will be a regular tenant instead of one that will only occasionally be played there.

As a fan of a non-Tacrappo Road school, I think I speak for several schools (or at least several postsers) in saying I'd much rather the ACCT be at Madison Square Garden every year than in Greensboro literally half of the time. Greensboro?! Sounds as exciting as Pahokee, FL.

I sure hope not.
Why would anyone want to travel to New York, spend $400 a night for a hotel room , just to see Dook and Carolina play in the finals? It makes no sense.
I would much rather visit New York at Christmas time. BTW Merry Christmas.

I could see it in the rotation.
MSG could also have nBE and/or catholic league rotating with acc.

RE: ACC Talking To MSG
As a fan of a North Carolina school I am not married to Greensboro. The thing about Greensboro is, the ACC is the big fish in their pond. They roll out the red carpet for the ACC. In NYC, would the ACCT be just another event at MSG?

I'd be in favor of MSG as a permanent home if we had regional pods and rounds 1 and 2 were held in the region with the winner advancing to the finals at a neutral site/MSG.

RE: ACC Talking To MSG
The Big East Tourney is a big event for MSG. They do an excellent job and sell out. Whether Greensboro, Atlanta, or even Louisville sell out, the point is moot. No city can provide the electric feel and media hype of NYC. NYC loves college hoops and they love several schools in the ACC (and not just the northern schools). The reality is that each school will be granted approximately 1,000 tickets each whether in NYC or Greensboro. Those tickets will go to the Athletic Department, important school official and the largest donors before the average donor or average fan can get a shot at one. In short, they can all afford to be in NYC for the Tourney (all school related personnel are pad for by the school and all big donors have money coming out their ears, a trip to NYC costs them very little).

I appreciate history. However, the ACC wants to be a big boy, they will have to start acting like the Big Boys and using their leverage.

There still may be an opportunity to divide the ACCT into three sites, with two sites holding the preliminary rounds and the third hosting the ACCT final four, and rotating the final four site between the three sites. Regardless, if the ACC cedes NYC to any other conference, then the ACC gets what little they deserve. With the Big East demise, NYC is there for the taking.

There is NOTHING like the BET in MSG. Bold prediction: The ACC will do it up there once and immediately try to renegotiate it as the annual site.

Nope. They let you defend yourself with CCW, don't tell you how big your drinks have to be, it doesn't cost a grand for a two night hotel stay, let you turn right on red, have no city income tax, .......

Its a big event in New York city. The ACC should try and capitalize on the publicity that this event generates. Besides, I think there are probably a lot of fans for ACC schools in New York city as it is the financial capital of the country and a big media center for the country. They will roll out the carpet for the ACC as well. For fans who are worried about the hotel prices, it is not that bad if you move out to the suburbs or New Jersey.

i hate to bust your bubble but MSG will only get in on a rotational basis in the near term, doesn't matter how much money or buzz being in NYC generates. Greensboro made the ACC tournament what it is & won't be cast to the side completely unless it's arena no longer fits the needs of the conference. It amazes me when people comment on the tournament yet they have never been. So while Greensboro isn't a large city with all kinds of other activities, the ENTIRE community embraces the tournament and do every thing they can to make sure guest have a good time.

I don't think anyone is doubting that Greensboro made the ACC Tourney what it is today. But MSG could potentially put the Tourney on an entire different level. I will agree that Tourney will move on a rotating basis tho.

RE: ACC Talking To MSG
Personally, I think the ACC should follow the example of Big Ten. The Big Ten tournament rotates between Indianapolis and Chicago (from 2012 to 2016 it will alternate yearly between the two). I think it would be awesome to rotate our tournament between Greensboro and Madison Square Garden. You maintain the ACC's traditional roots while also expanding the conference's exposure in the country's largest financial and advertising center.

The only problem I see is that I don't know whether MSG would accept being an alternate site location.

Rotation would work for me.
ACC should capitalize on it.
No doubt would be a moneymaker.
