I find it funny that ECU tried like hell to get in the BE for years.. And as soon as they do, it goes kapoot.

If it weren't for bad luck ECU and USM would have no luck at all sometimes.

The administration has tried for years. I've always wanted the ACC as that WAS one of the most stable conferences. Now I have think that B1G and Pac-12 are the 2 most stable conferences around

SEC is the most stable, and it's not even close.

You would think so but with the addition of Mizzou and Texas A&M there are now two agendas in play.

P.r.. when teams want to come INTO your conference with nobody threatening to leave that's still stability.

I don't know of anyone who's wanting to get out of the SEC...

Yes, the BE/C-USA conferences have teams wanting to come in, but you also have teams wanting out.

The MAC is fortunate, that they don't have anyone wanting to leave, but nobody's clamoring to get into their conference

There are very few life boats left and only a few schools on any of these boards that have a shot mainly UC and UCONN. The rest of us are pretty much porked but for some reason we want the other guys to be more porked. I just want ECU in a decent Conference as big money TV contracts and BCS access are off the table except for the Red Headed Step Child BCS bid for a 11-1 or 12-0 season. I had hoped at one point that ECU, Southern Miss and Marshall would be the foundation of whatever became of CUSA or a new Eastern Conference.
I would happy as can be if the NBE or whatever it comes to be called ends up all sports and we are playing UCONN, UC, USF, UCF, Temple, Boise St, San Diego St, UH, SMU etc.. If a new league threw in Southern Miss, Tulsa and Marshall I would be all the more happy.

End of the day I have no idea how this turns out but I do think people on this board spend too much time battling each other when the real enemy is the Big 5 and ESPN. CUSA will be fine and the solid teams in CUSA like Tulsa, Southern Miss and Marshall will have every shot at a 11-1, 12-0 season that could give them a BCS bid. Schools in the NBE will be fine no matter what happens from an all sports league to a hybrid or a implosion of just the CUSA schools +Temple forming a new league.

I like the idea of being in a league with UCF, USF, and Temple. Marshall and USM would be in any dream league of left outs I could put together, but I don't make decisions. Long term ODU and Charlotte (assuming both prove to be successes at this level) would be there as well.

I really don't see why Houston & SMU want to be in a conference with UNLV & Fresno so much. UNLV's only good for basketball & Fresno is usually good in basketball, but the schools are so far out there for a weekend road trip compared to El Paso, Tulsa, & Ruston

I don't get the USF desire.. I'm just curious, what did they bring to the table/stadium that made them a desirable opponent?

I don't care to play Houston, Boise, SMU, UNLV, Fresno, SDSU or Tulane. Half of the CUSA schedule I never cared about. Also don't care to play UNT, UTSA, Rice either.

Having said that I would rather stay right where we are than to think we were the last team in a "Blown Up BiG East" that has the same access to the same thing as we have now.

Also at the end of the day Cincy and UConn will not be there.

Well it was more due to Skip being there originally, but I have some personal lingering dislike for them that I think would make it fun to be in the league with them. I always enjoyed the smack weeks with UCF, and with UCF/USF/ECU all in one league you could have tons of them. All you would need is 6BC fans to be able to join in and the whole board would collapse.

Purple, you hate the nBE board because you posted a terrible idea, and they weren't afraid to tell you.

UH left CUSA for a reason. If you're the nBE commissioner, and you put a halt to Westward expansion, and Boise & SDSU went back to the MWC like you wanted, guess what? You'd lose two more schools in UH and SMU.

No pity here.

Not all of us did. Quite a few were very happy with the Charlotte add. I am looking forward to playing you guys.

Needless to say, I'm sticking with CUSAbbs till the bitter end.

I think thats a gutsy post & true. Thank you.
Don't know where some of the NBE noobs think they're all that.
I'd put USM's football history & overall sports programs up against anyone in that conference, present or future.
You're going to learn -the hard way I'm afraid - of being in a conference led by a Northeastern TV executive, in a conference with a Northeastern attitude.
Perhaps it'll work out, but don't be thinking you're better because you're in a big market.

I might be wrong but I think when the dust settles the BE and C-USA will be pretty much the same status in the FBS and may find that the C-USA putting more into the playoff picture. Any way you shake it I suspect that we will all find ourselves the red-headed stepchild and getting what little they have to give us to give their national championship game a look of all of the FBS.

They see what they want to see.

They do see their new name as instant Big Boy Pants. But they don't see that the media, BIG5, and the rest of the sports world still sees CUSA.

What I can't figure out, is that USF, Cincy, and UConn are openly looking elsewhere, and the nBE newbies are all excited about a relationship that those schools are looking to end asap.

As for the board. This board has lots of character, sense of humor, personalities, etc. Not all of the others do. Some large boards do nothing but trash each other.

LOL. Let them enjoy it while they can. No matter what conference they are in, all of them are now on the same level as everyone else in the "Group of Five".

Time will prove that being in a more regional setup is the way to go for "Group of Five" members.

At the end of the day, regardless of the conference we are in.....we play for the same access. That's reality whether they want to accept it or not.

If that's true then you guys would try to rejoin the MAC. Just being more regional alone isn't the answer.

It is true B0nds. The main reasons we would not try and rejoin the Mac is simply because we want to play football in the south. The south is where we recruit. The south is where our alumni is. CUSA did a good job in going out and getting some schools that are regionally friendly to Marshall. ODU, Charlotte, MTSU, F_U....not to mention that UAB is still here and we've left ourselves some wiggle room to add more in the future if CUSA decides it wants to. CUSA made some nice moves to tighten up the geography in the West as well with UTSA, La Tech etc.

Nothing against those Mac schools but we don't recruit Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio etc. I'm not saying that we "never" pull a kid from any of those areas because occasionally we do but for the most part we focus our attention on recruiting kids from the South. Don't believe me? Take a look at our roster and the kids coming in.

And talking about regional setups for "Group of five" members?....I absolutely believe that it wont take long for ANY members of this group to realize that regional games make much more sense. Especially now since we all have the same level of access.

Memphis is way ahead of MTSU. Bigger budget, more prestige, more sponsers, more money, better location, better facilities. Tulane is outrecruiting La Tech with their new coach, and i guarantee if you give Tulane La Tech's record the past two years, they sell out their new stadium easily. And Tulane has more prestige, more money, better location than La Tech can hope for.

Have you watched ODU basketball lately?

RE: SOT: Why I hate the nBE board
I think when each school leaves for the big east, they get as a membership perk, a time square banner and newfound arrogance. I have never seen so many fans thumb their noses at Southern Miss like we were the reason they were considered "small time". Me personally, I would take the best football teams left and make a real conference and forget this market nonsense but according to all these NBE people, if we don't have a market, we are not on their level. I guess we should not take the field anymore and forfit all of our many many wins over the schools leaving and focus on our academics. Everybody needs to get a grip, in this alleged "group of 5" nobody is better then anybody so talking down to schools is pointless. The new big east is part of that group and I personally don't think any of those fans have earned the right to talk down to Southern Miss. Markets, markets blah blah blah. Beat us a few dozen more times on the field then we can talk, that's the only place you should be able to earn respect in athletics.

You cant go off judgement on one season of play. Look at what they've done in recent past. Look at the commitment they have by looking at their facilities.

Besides....even with those losses this year, ODU will still likely double in attendance what Houston does with a winning record. They have fans that care and will support the program.
