It would make great sense, and most likely the Pinstripe would go to the lower level northern teams that are bowl eligible. IMHO, if Syracuse is 6-6 up to 8-4, it would most likely go to the Pinstripe pretty regularly. Honestly, I bet most Syracuse fans would be content with that. Obviously, if Syracuse goes 12-0 or loses only 1 or 2 games then they'd want to go somewhere more prestigious...but at 7-5 I'm sure they'd probably want the Pinstripe.

I would LOVE to make the Pinstripe Bowl the "Syracuse bowl." Unless we get a ticket to a HUGE (BCS) game, I would MUCH rather play in the Pinstripe every year. Sure a trip down to Fla every couple of years would be nice, but I love everything about the Pinstripe. An ACC v. B1G/ND deal would be perfect. I bet ND would actually not mind playing in NYC around new years (Dec. 29th). SU/Pitt/BC v. RU/PSU/ND in NYC would be epic.

[Yes, I know PSU and ND are wishful thinking. Let me dream.]
If it goes B1G vs ACC the money would increase. I think the bowl would be doable for UVA and VTech fans too. Problem is no tractor parking around Yankee Stadium so that eliminates the Clemson and NCSt road tripping crowds.

With Notre Dame joining the ACC as a non-football member, they get access to all non-BCS level bowls. This is just similar to the Big East agreement were Notre Dame would go to their bowl games.

So an ACC team could never play ND in a bowl game outside of the new BCS. Your example would be SU/Pitt/BC/ND vs RU/PSU for the Pinstripe.

Adding ND to the pool of available teams should help improve the ACC bowl tie-ins. People will complain about Notre Dame "Stealing Acc bowl slots", but it will help attract better non-bcs bowl tie-ins. I am sure many bowls want a chance at ND every few years to match up against another big conference.

Correct - ACC cannot play Notre Dame in any bowl outside of BCS

Also, on the B1G side I'd add Maryland as another attractive match-up for the Pinstripe bowl, and though you may not expect them to fall that far, any of the Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St, even. Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Northwestern not so much maybe, and the further west you go the less attractive it becomes.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that is an NCAA rule, and, unless it's an NCAA rule, if both parties agree to waive it, then they can do what they want to do, so long as the Pinstripe Bowl is on board. And, I don't see the Pinstripe Bowl turning down Syracuse v. NY. Arguably those are the two teams that bring the most fans. I also don't see the Pinstripe Bowl turning down "the holy war" (or whatever it is that they call BC v. ND) or a Pitt v. ND game either.

These are all exhibition games anyway, so there probably is no rule.

But, the Pinstripe bowl will have a hard time finding another conference that will share a bowl bid with ND. Do you thing the B10 will allow ND to steal one of their bowl slots?

Also, the ACC bowls below the Pinstripe will not be too happy if the Pinstripe takes two ACC teams, and left them with nothing.

No, a lot of bowl games have secondary tie ins. This is all hypothetical, but it could be based on the B1G not sending enough teams, or, in the future*, I can see bowls being regionally-specific (i.e. ACC north or B1G east), and I can see ND going in a B1G team's place if none of the eastern teams qualify.

*because sending regional teams still matters to bowls, and conferences aren't regional in the way that they used to be.

RE: Pinstripe Bowl ACC vs B1G in '14?
Notre Dame wouldn't be in the Pinstripe in the Big Ten's spot because the ACC would be using Notre Dame to upgrade their other bowl slots. What does that mean? The other bowl slots will expect access to Notre Dame as the ACC representative. Forget expect, demand access to ND.

With Rutgers and Maryland now in the B1G, it is only logical if the Pinstripe becomes ACC vs B1G. Rutgers, Boston College, Maryland, Syracuse and Penn St (although ineligible for a while) is decent pool to select from.

Hopefully both B1G and ACC pick up this bowl and maybe another too, I'd love to see a SU vs RU @ Pinstripe Bowl one year...

Bounce, Michigan and Ohio State would be huge there too in their off years.

I'd throw Pitt and ND in that pool too, but yes I agree its a very nice pool for the bowl to select from. It can become the defacto Eastern football meetup.
