The last paragraph sez it all. Hopefully with this arrangement the bowl payment can be increased. The Yankees have deep pockets but are very shrewd.

“It’s not to say we won’t be back with our two partners. But clearly Syracuse is a very important part of the mix. They advertise right in our stadium,” he said of the Orange, which bills itself as 'New York's college team.'

“Ideally, we’d like to be in a situation where we could get them once every few years. We’d like to be in a situation where we could get Rutgers once every few years,” he continued. “So we have to look at all of the options and what’s best for our bowl game.”

Looks like an ACC/Big10 matchup to me. And a higher payout than $2 million per team, possibly.
Makes perfect sense. Going forward they'd probably love to have a Rutgers vs. Syracuse matchup once in a while. Both conferences need more tie-ins too.
I guess they're not looking forward to that Iowa State - SMU match-up in 2015.

Best thing they're getting now from a national standpoint would be Texas/Oklahoma vs. Boise. Best thing attendance wise would be Texas/Oklahoma/WVU vs. UConn/Navy. Can't imagine they're very excited about the odds of those matchups happening.
Yep, this makes perfect sense starting in 2014.

Still think most of these bowls pretty much disappear sometime toward the end of the next decade.

Pinstripe might have a possibility of hanging on though due to location, location, location.

Cheers,
Neil

deal is up after next year
Do these smaller bowls make schools buy a number of tickets like the BCS bowls?

Yes, although I believe the allotments are usually much, much smaller. Usually at the most 10K tickets.
Hard to get excited about a low payout bowl in a baseball stadium in a cold weather city, especially when we are losing our premier non-BCS bowl.

The Pinstripe allotment is 5k, but SU got a 2nd (and possibly a 3rd) allotment last time we played, and I would imagine that RU did the same. Plys, I know WVU has already sold most of its allotment.

Rutgers can easily sell 10k tickets for that bowl. Its virtually a home game. Drive in see the game and drive back out. Makes for a nice afternoon. Did it when they played Army there. Tailgated at in the public parking garage then ate at the stadium. You can get anything from a burger or a hot dog to a nice meal in a nice restaurants there or head to Midtown for some nice restaurants and bars before leaving the city.

Definitely will become a B-10 - ACC game in the future with Syracuse, BC, Rutgers, Pitt, Penn State, and Maryland surrounding it or with in driving distance of the game. ND would sell the place out with dibs on ACC bowls too. The close BE schools would be UConn if they remain in the BE, Temple, and Navy. Maybe the BE conference would be the back up conference if the B-10 or ACC could not fill this bowl. It would be the politically correct thing to do as the BE is eased out of this bowl in the next contract negotiation.

Yeah it sucks to play in the most exciting city in the world, in the most famous sports venue hosted by the #1 sports franchise and most likely to an increase payout in the future by hooking up with two nearby great conferences.

Don't worry CatDaddy...this bowl is for the northern flank teams...although if Clemson was invited I bet your wife would love to go to NYC at Christmas time.

There will be a bowl shakeout coming but this one is on firm footing.

Actually I think it is 10,000 for the Big East teams.
This would be a great bowl for the ACC to add, particularly against the B1G.

its a low pay bowl right now because its bigeast 4 vs big 12 7 if bigten and acc both put there 4th or 5th team in it the payout would double

Unfortunately we can't cure the cold.

Oh. It's 5k for Big XII teams (WVU won't sh*t up about it). I assumed that it was the same for both, but you might be right.

Side note: have you heard any info on how many tix SU has sold?

Yeah we can: hot chocolate (and/or a ton of alcohol)

It would just be part of the mix. More importantly, it's not a low payout bowl, it's $2 million/school. B1G vs. ACC would give them access to PSU, RU, SU and ND, all fan favorites in NYC. Schools that travel well, like CU, UL and FSU, would likely be targeted by bowls above the Pinstripe in the pecking order, such as the Belk and Russell Athletic.

The ACC will find a replacement for the Chick fil a. Probably the Gator or Outback.
