Yes, Smarthmouth is brand new. The guys who started it hired a head brewer who has worked at Lagunitas, Victory, and other breweries. I've heard the beer is very polished.

Yes, it's about a block before you get to Birch and Tortilla West and it's definitely worth a visit.

O'connor's best beers are El Guapo and Dry Irish Stout. El Guapo is an Agave IPA with loads of cascade and armarillo hops. It's injected with agave nectar for a touch of sweetness and it also bumps up the abv a little. Dry Irish Stout is very smooth drinking with robust coffee and chocolate flavors. Better than Guinness, not quite where founders breakfast stout is. The owner and head brewer are both ODU grads. Like them on Facebook to find tasting hours and they usually do discounts before odu games for growlers or pints if you're wearing odu gear.

Kevin is super nice! (O'Connor). And agree about that assessment of his beers. El Guapo and the Stout are my favorites as well. Had a keg of Green Can for our wedding.
