Sitting on the long, boring line for Commodore Theatre tickets has got me thinking about what are the best local values for our entertainment dollar.

For me, ODU men's basketball far and away tops that list -- even when we suck.

The Commodore Theatre (obviously) also is in the top five, even if I have to cool my aging butt on the cold concrete waiting for Fred to open the doors. When I have out-of-town visitors, at least ones who have even a glimmer of interest in history, the MacArthur Memorial is my typical suggestion.

Any others?
My top 5

Ted Constant Center, NTELOS Wireless Amphitheatre, Ferguson Center for the Arts, the NORVA, Mariners Museum and Park
Speaking of:

and for a good cause.

But the Norva is up there for me, The Chrysler, The VA Contemporary Arts Center at the beach.

This is a joke right? Watching us lose to VMI is "entertaining"? I'd rather set my money on fire and watch it burn for 3 minutes than watch 2 more hours of Blaine Taylor coached basketball.

They are selling beer at a blood drive???? I thought you weren't supposed to drink after giving blood. That is, ummmm, interesting.
haha it's not a blood drive. Red Cross does more than just blood donations.

I've done that before though. Gave blood during lunch at a drive at my work then went to happy hour for a beer... huge mistake. Ended up having to get a cab after that 1 beer turned into 3 and was absolutely hammered.

How did you get blood drive out of that poster?

Irrational rage causes blindness.
Good questions, i just asked the same ones on their Facebook. I didn't ask because I knew where their brewery was.

25th and Colonial is where they are... but I'm assuming.

ps. I think more people would be interested if they knew where the relief party is...

I just assumed it was at the Red Cross center since there is no address listed of where the event is and usually, that is where you go to give blood.

My mistake. Or rather, theirs for not listing the proper details.

Actually my rage is quite rational. The fact that you aren't upset after losing to VMI at home speaks far more about you than it does about me. At least I give a sh*t that my team sucks and want to see us do better. You apparently don't really care and want to stick with the status quo.
bump... screeeeeech... yep another thread official off course like a runaway train.
Thanks RR
Just found out why no details were listed... apparently my wife had a Facebook event invite and passed on a 1/8th of the info. sigh. but details below:

"An Exclusive Brewery Event featuring Live Bands, Beer Trucks, Food Trucks, & Prizes. The price is $20 per ticket which includes three 16oz beers. We will also donate 25% of ticket proceeds to the American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts. Only a very limited amount of tickets to be sold. Tickets on sale now at the brewery or call 757-623-2337 for advance ticket purchases. We will also sell tickets the day of the event but to avoid lines, buy in advance!"

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
The Aquarium is another good place for all ages.
I'm super in love with Beach Brewing Co.'s beer right now. I like their emphasis on the hops and the owner is an ODU grad. I prefer some of their beer over O'Connor's and definitely better than St. George's.
I keep hearing good things from Beach, haven't tried any yet. Smarthmouth is supposed to be excellent as well. I'm not a fan of St. George.

Smartmouth is good (specifically, their saison) and IMO have the best tasting room of all the breweries in the southside (haven't been to St. George's or Brass Cannon yet to judge all of HR).
They're also very well funded. I look forward to trying all these. I know Public House has all of Smartmouths beers on tap a long with OConnor. I THINK I've had some Brass Cannon but not 100% sure I remember. =]
OConnor's is okay.

Isn't Smartmouth a brand new brewery?
I'm pretty sure it is. Should be next to the Birch. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
The Norva has some pretty good concerts. Hopefully the VB arena comes through.
