I can already see where this will go (just like a dozen other threads on this board lately).
Perhaps the best bet is just to vote EMU. Like I just did.

Slightly misleading stat IMO. Toledo has been winning during the majority of that time span.
But Toledo certainly is in the discussion and has as much of a claim as anyone else.
That's incorrect. Toledo football had the following records over the last five years:
2007 = 5-7
2008 = 3-9
2009 = 5-7
2010 = 8-5
2011 = 9-4
Three of the last five years Toledo had a losing record in football. I would think the original question is not just talking about football though. Toledo men's basketball has had some pretty horrible years in the last five years.
As for largest fan base from a MAC school. You're not going to get a clear cut answer, but if you want some unbiased answers ask posters to post their vote and tell them they cannot vote for their own school.
I read it as he was including this year in his last 5.
I'd also add that Toledo still holds the MAC record for attendance at a single home game.
That's just silly to include this year because it's not complete and down the stretch as it gets colder attendance decreases. Toledo will sometimes have 10K-15K for home games in late November.
As for single game home attendance record.......for on campus stadiums that is correct. For non-campus stadiums (the regular stadium the MAC school uses) that is not correct. Also, that record was set back in 2001, not in the last five years.

It's funny, whenever we play in the stadium down the road in Ann Arbor we're able to pull in over 100,000 fans for our game. :sly:

I have no problem supporting Toledo in this discussion.
However, I still stand by the comment about the last 5 seasons being slightly misleading if one were to use that as the only indicator of what team has the largest fanbase.

If we're talking about the largest fanbase over a certain period of time, like 10 years......I agree. If we're talking about the largest fanbase right now then even going back 5 years ago is misleading so I agree again.
Of course my question is why are we just talking about football? The original poll said largest MAC fanbase, not largest MAC football fanbase. Ohio probably has the best fanbase for men's basketball. Toledo has the best fanbase for women's basketball. Not sure who, though it might be Kent State, has the best fanbase for baseball. And so on. To me, best fanbase in the MAC is not based off just one sport.........and I'm not sure how there will ever be one clear winner for best MAC fanbase.

RE: Which MAC school has the largest fanbase?
What I think needs to be said first, is which fanbase are we talking about? Is it the overall athletics fanbase or just the football team's fanbase?
Overall, yes, the Rockets men's team has been down. but still had considerable crowds for the team, and if you include the Women's basketball, its even higher for fanbase support.
I think that is what needs to be discussed. Not which year or which that.
My two cents, and yes, Im bias towards the Rockets, but consistently the Rockets have supported their team even in the depths of the losing years. They still lead amongst crowds in attendance. Maybe the Rockets athletics program has really taken off as of late for a whole. Fanbase support in the MAC is cyclical.
