Thoughts?

I attempted to do this poll in alphabetical order, but I forgot about Ball State until the end. My apologies.
You mean which MAC fanbase has the most posters on this board?

No, that is not what I asked.

...but its undoubtedly the result you will get.
So, you are asking for everybody's opinions for something that is not easily quantified.

I can already see where this will go (just like a dozen other threads on this board lately).

So you're telling me the MAC board is not capable of being objective?

I have.

Coincidentally, I was attacked by a large number of posters after I suggested the majority of posters here are unwilling or unable to see reality which I feel is necessary to advance the MAC to the next level.

And yet you feel you will get a realistic response to which team has the biggest fanbase?
At the moment I would guess Ohio or Toledo. Couldn't say which.
Some of us here can be trusted to be honest about our answer (some, not all). I have voted and I did not vote for my school, but hey, if you included hockey (non MAC sport) I might've shifted my answer and been more of a "homer"! Also, I assumed the question was for major sports like Football and hoops, but maybe it was only football. That makes a difference as some schools like NIU have a really good football fan following but a poor one for hoops.

And I'm still waiting breathlessly for your explanation of just what that mythical "next level" is that you believe the MAC can advance to.

C'mon champ, enlighten me.
It really depends on who is winning and who is getting national attention. If that is there, the fan base is there. If it's not, the fan base is not. We are no different than most Non AQ teams and mid to low level AQ teams in that regard.

Early in the voting it looks like NIU is at #1, with Toledo and Eastern Michigan tied for #2.

+1

I'd like to hear about this also.
I voted EMU...primarily in protest of not seeing the benefit of this poll...I would be interested in a poll that asked about who each CSNBBS member cheers for to get an idea of what the forum representation is...I'd guess Toledo, NIU, Kent, Ohio as largest representation, then WMU, CMU, Miami, BGSU, then Buffalo, EMU, Akron, then UMASS and Ball State.
Since Buffalo is a metered media market there are actual numbers. For the 2009 International Bowl the school sold out its allotment of 12500 tickets, and the bowl reported 30k of the 40k were UB fans. Back in Buffalo 116k households were estimated to have watched, on ESPN2. It was the highest-rated cable event in 4 years and was the highest-rated college event ever here. The dual efforts of UB's market and Ball St's ranking also lead to the MAC title game being the 2nd most-watched title game nationally, after one of the Marshall title victories.

There was also an analysis of fanbases a few years ago by the NYT. By the author's analysis at that time, Temple and UB had fanbases of over 200k, leading the MAC.

Scroll down to the MAC section. Granted this has Temple in it and no Umass, but this is the "scientific" findings presented by the New York Times.

For those too lazy to click on the link, the rankings are as follows:

1. Temple
2. Buffalo
3. Akron
4. Northern Illinois
5. Miami (OH)
6. Bowling Green
7. Toledo
8. Ohio
9. Western Michigan
10. Kent State
11. Ball State
12. Central Michigan
13. Eastern Michigan
