Can we now announce the divisions?
Or do we have to wait for TV to dictate them to us sometime before the end of the year?
Not that anyone else cares, but this is important to me because UConn will be in Dallas every other year if UConn & SMU are in the same division. If they're in different divisions, UConn will be here once every twelve years.
Big difference.

TV needs to tell us #14 and the divisions.

So we've got a few more months to hang out in the man cave, and they'll let us know (eventually) what the plan is.
That's what I thought. I was hoping for better news.

RE: Can we now announce the divisions?
I seem to recall somebody official in the BE saying it would be dealt with after the new commish was in place. Hopefully, sooner than later, but it really doesn't matter, until we start putting together 2013 schedules.

no reason to announce them now if you've waited this long.

I think we already know it's likely going to be zippers. If so, you can bet that UCF/USF, SMU/UH and SDSU/Boise will be zipped and paired as rivals. Just a matter of who else gets zipped where, lol.

RE: Can we now announce the divisions?
I think a bigger question is, do we go 8 or 9 conference games?
If we go 8 conference games, how do we arrange playing the opposite division? Considering that 8 conference games seems to be the popular favorite, I want to do a 5-3 conference schedule when we have 14. I really don't like the idea of playing only 2 games cross division.

It will be probably be 5-3, as long as we have 12 teams, but when we go to 14, it will be 6-1-1, more than likely. Just not practical to play everybody regularly, in a coast to coast conference, with 14 or more teams, and still play all division opponents, as required by the NCAA.

Geography goes out the window when we do a zipper setup. Everyone goes everywhere. I just dont want the divisions to essentially be two different conferences altogether.

Well, if it's 6-1-1 ... and (for example) UCF and Cincinnati are in opposite divisions, then UCF would visit Cincinnati once every 12 years. And vice versa.
That's why I would prefer nine conference games (6-2-1). That would leave three OOC games (one tough opponent, one similar opponent, and one cupcake).

Another thing that there is no reason to put it stone when you're going to the table in a couple weeks. I would imagine 8 for Navy to still play Notre Dame and the Com. in Chief Trophy. Nice to be flexible though.

That's exactly my point. Once every 12 years is no better than an OOC game

It's a tradeoff. I personally prefer 9 games, so we can play 3 crossover games each year, when we get to 14 teams. But Navy seems opposed, so we'll see. I would hope they cave to what should be a majority opinion for 9.
But it's still going to be zippers.

9 games kills our SOS though, as it will give our teams an extra loss every year. I'd rather have 8 games so we can beat on some other league with that extra game.
You earn respect as a league by stacking up wins OOC and beating other conferences, not by beating each other.

I'm actually not set in stone, either way. It's certainly a trade-off, no matter what. I believe the league will stay with 8 games, anyway.

Anyone think that the NCAA will go to 13 games? That would definitely help make the choice between an 8 game or a 9 game conference schedule easier.
